Songwriting money is a dream we can pursue and achieve just like any other.

Its about consistently pitching. Like anything else worthwhile.

How?

Here's a start.

A: Order
"Row Fax" (not affiliate link) or any other industry tip sheet. to find out who is cutting what albums and what kinds of songs they are seeking, and how to submit.
B: Start pitching your demo's.
C: Think of it just like telemarketers and expect a 3% response rate. depending on the quality of your music. or appropriateness of who you pitch what to. (Targeting).

Here is another reliable resource:
The Muse's Muse Music Resource: Songwriting/Tip Sheets

Im sure if you make youtube videos this stuff can be even more effective.

There are tip sheets and pitch lists available for literally every genre... You can gather hundreds of tips per month and really work the numbers with your song plugging.

Most people get a few negative opinions and stop, but its just like cold calling, rejection is part of the equation.

Yet another reliable resource: A&R, Record Label / Company, Music Publishing, Artist Manager and Music Industry Directory

Rejection is so hard that most people feel like they are working more numbers than they actually are. There are thousands of music jobs every day opening up...You have to work the numbers.

Hopefully some will find this thread worthwhile. I know we have alot of artist types here.

On that note...

I was just going through some old stuff and found these... Think I could get this one signed one of these days if I pursue it again... Kind of a country/rock Brooks and Dunn kind of tune... Very 90's.

"Good Ole Boy Meets Cowgirl"

V1:

He's been lookin for a sign, since he walked in the the door
Tryin to make up his mind to say Hi to that Honkey tonk honey across the floor
All alone there playin with her curls...
Thinkin "anything can happen when good ole boy meets a cowgirl".

V2:

So he tips her his hat
And with a wink and a smile
She's fallin head over heels man she's diggin that red neck style.
And she dont know, but she might just give it whirl...
You never know what can happen when good ole boy meets a cowgirl

Chorus:

When good ole boy meets lady luck
There's just no tellin what might come up
They could be out dancin till the break of dawn
Or wind up romancin in the back of the barn
Never know what story might unfurl
Yeah cause anything can happen when good ole boy meets a cowgirl.

V3:

So she jumps in his truck
and in a flash their gone
You know they wont be back till the sun comes up or the cows come home
They'll be honkey tonkin round the world
You never know what can happen when good ole boy meets a cowgirl...

Repeat Cho/Music Solo/ Tag at end...
Maybe a guitar chord and the sound of a truck or something driving off...

I've got 200 songs that I need to get making money... lol Surely at least some of them.

Share your original lyrics here. Ps. These are copywrited.

I like the song, John. You've got some good lines. You know me though, I love words and word play. Thanks for the tips on selling music. Any specific advice on just selling lyrics without music, or is that not done?

Its not generally done Dennis. A good demo is a pre requisite for selling songs. Can be done with just an acoustic and a vocal but the sound quality, timing, tone... has to be there.

This is a good discussion though. Thanks for saving my thread

The idea of a demo is to bring out the true spirit of the song, however basic.

That's what I figured . . . one more reason for me to take up the guitar again, I guess.

@ Karen, I like it! Nice and simple, but loaded with meaning.

I've been to so many places -
I've seen only empty faces -
And I have yet to ever find -
Someone like you who blows my mind.

      Chorus:
You are alive in every way -
You're not afraid what people say -
You do the things you want to do -
If I could only be like you.

      You don't worry about a thing -
You do your best in everything -
Always living all of your dreams -
You are happy - or so it seems.

      Chorus:

You are alive in every way -
You're not afraid what people say -
You do the things you want to do -
If I could only be like you.

      Wow John!

I like it! I could even imagine watching the scene being played out at the bar in the accompanying official music video.

That's the thing that I've noticed about country songs though, since Thom and Paul Myers introduced me to it, it's kind of timeless and really doesn't have to be a 70's, 80's or 90's thing.

What I'm trying to say is you should go for it!

      Terra
