Magic Johnson Pulls Another Hat Trick

Magic Johnson continues to destroy the stereotype of the dumb jock or bitter retired over the hill athlete. How? By doing muti-million dollar business ventures, raising millions for charity and being the face of various social movements.

He's now pulled another magic trick by helping to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's a shame more professional athletes don't follow his example. Most end up broke, bitter or boozed out.

Way to go Magic.

Mark Cuban said the deal was too expensive at 1 bill and the Magic group payed 2 billion.

    Good luck Magic!

There are a lot of smart jocks who do great things. I wrote about Warrick Dunn (former Tampa Bay running back) several years ago for his Home for the Holidays charity. He started by building one home for someone in need, and has gone on to build 100 homes so far. He was a pretty good running back, too.

    Welcome to Warrick Dunn Charities

However, the "dumb jock" stereotype will be around for a long, long time . . . even though most of them aren't dumb at all.

Not surprising, few if anyone is familiar with athletes like Warrick Dunn. Ironically, his generosity and charitable giving doesn't make the 6 O'clock News.

But what if he was arrested, had a lawsuit against him or was caught doing some other foolish act, do you think he would make the 6 O'clock News? Hmm. Ironic isn't it.

That's the nature of "news" I'm afraid. It would be interesting to see which station people would watch if one reported mostly good news and the other was programming as usual.
