Some things just shouldn't be tampered with and the original True Grit is one of them. I don't care how great the critics said it was. The original with John Wayne was the best.

The new Nightmare on Elm Street was another. I could go on but those two stick out in my mind.
  • Psycho - Mess with Hitchcock? What were they thinking?

In fact, it was even worse than worse - they made the same movie shot for shot, (in color), and still managed to screw it up royally...how creative...

Or we could probably start a whole thread on all the remake ripoffs of "A Christmas Carol"...or even a movie as silly as "The Parent Trap"...
They've all been passing around the same script for years!

But we got Jessica Lange out of that deal...

I thought the one with Jack Black and Naomi Watts was no prize either...and Jackson said he had been waiting his whole life to make that movie! For what? :p But - the CGI was good.

If Peter Jackson wants to remake a movie...he should remake his OWN movie "Dead Alive" - now that's a classic! It was great the first time - it could be even better now! I'd go to see that!

I like it when someone takes a classic and puts a spin on it...want to remake "Frankenstein"?
Give it to Mel Brooks...He makes "Young Frankenstein" -

Exactly. I was waiting to see how Jeff Bridges would do the famous line, "Fill your hands you son of a b*tch". What a let down. The Duke did it waaaaay better.

So that blind people can hate them as well.

I will admit even a great guy like The Dude had a tough job filling in for The Duke - but I thought the re-make was true to the book, and to the first movie...they didn't mess with it. And I liked the new girl's take on Mattie Ross, and it was a fine job for a first movie...and if you disagree, I will take it up with my Lawyer, J. Noble Daggett...:p

        Dear J. Noble Daggett, Esq.

In my opinion while the lines were kept true to the original, the characters were missing something. For example, the original Mattie Ross came off as determined and precocious, this one came off as just annoying. A fine line.

The Duke came off as a weathered old soldier with a laid back drawl. Bridges came off as an old drunk with a speech impediment. I honestly can't say what it was but IMHO the new actors just didn't have "it".

Sort of like Splenda, It tastes sweet but you still know it's not sugar.

I saw the more recent "True Grit" and really liked it. But now I'm gonna have to see the original one with "The Duke"
