Here's a guy that sold everything he owed, went to Las Vegas and put it all on a single spin of the roulette wheel:
AOL.com Video - A Man Bets His Life Savings in Las Vegas

Would you have the "guts" to do this?

Actually, the person who made that bet is the worst gambler in the world. The odds aren't even 50-50, as the house has the edge with 0 and 00.

Hmmm....he won. I think that makes him possibly the NEXT to worst gambler in the world.

Maybe -but I'm not sure if being lucky once makes you a good gambler. People with a tendency to make bets like that often keep betting until they lose it all. Hopefully, he is an exception

That would be me. And the reason I stay away from the casinos.

I once went to Tunica, MS with a neighbor who sets himself a time limit (3 hrs) and sticks to it.

I had been doing pretty well when he found me and said "let's go"...and headed straight for the exit without looking back.

I was ticked...until we got about halfway home and I thought "What the heck am I po'd at him for...I've got the money I took and $650" Duh!

It makes you a better gambler then me
I will say I can do pretty good betting on the horses, but there is a big but to that.
I have to commit myself to the full schedule at the track.
I have to spend hours everyday analyzing the racing form, even if I'm not betting on that day.
Then on race day I try to study the horses live as best I can before I add up all the information and place a bet.
            Here's the kicker.
My friends wife stares at the horses or their names on the card without blinking, causing them to go out of focus. The horse or name that comes into focus first is the one she bets on.
She does better betting the horses then I do

LV does have some European style tables, with only a single 0, which cuts the house edge in half. Hopefully, he knew this and took advantage.

Plus, there's the old adage "better to be lucky than good".

I'll have to remember that the next time I'm in Vegas. I knew that they had the single 0 in Europe, but didn't know it was in the U.S.

Some people have claimed success with the simple doubling up system, betting on either red/black or odd/even. In that case, the extra 0 would make a big difference. Actually, it makes a difference with any bet as a 0 means everyone loses.

While we're on the subject, here's one of my favorite Las Vegas stories of all time:

The Desert Inn was famous for having hi rollers and had a special room just for them to enjoy gambling.

A Texas millionaire was getting irritated by an Australian guy playing at a table next to him who was getting pretty rowdy.

So after exchanging a few choice words, the Texan said, "Do you know who I am? I'm worth $10 million dollars!"

The Australian happened to be Kerry Packer, a multi-billionaire. Packer replied, "I'll flip you for it."

Would you have the "guts" to do this?
Not only would I not have the guts to do that, I would have the good sense not to.

Growing up in Vegas, I learned quickly that there was a reason casinos stayed in business.

My dad told me never to trust something that had one arm and its back against the wall. And I listened. I stayed away from those one-armed bandits.

I have to admit when I had some spare money before I got sick the wife and I would make the 5 hour drive to Atlantic City and spend a few hours.
It was mostly spent doing slots, but we also always went with a preset amount with the mindset that it was lost money already. In other words we went just to have fun,not to expect to win anything or come home with anything extra.

That's really the way I was with the horses.
I only bet during the summer meet at Saratoga.
      I never went to OTB.
I only brought as much money with me that I could afford to lose.
I always had a lot of fun

I think I'd have the guts to do it, but then again I have quite a few years left to get back on track.
