Would 2Checkout as opposed to Paypal discourage you from purchasing?

We are currently considering switching our payment processing to 2checkout rather than Paypal for a variety of reasons, but I'm looking to get some general opinion on the topic first. We recognise Paypal has long been the preferred payment processor for most things online, but would you be discouraged from purchasing goods or a service from a website if you had to checkout through 2checkout?

Before making you decision, bare in mind you can still pay via your Paypal account through 2checkout.

Regardless of your answer being yes or no, I'd appreciate it if you could give your reasoning, too.

At the moment, I would imagine you may lose a couple of sales... Mainly the ones that were only just convinced to buy. They see something unfamiliar - it seems too much hassle. As well as that, I'm sure many people, myself included, wouldn't be aware you can use PayPal with 2checkout.

  • No...actually I think I will checkout 2Checkout more...and see if it can give PP a run for it's money.

I opened an account with them when they first started. I think it costs $50 at the time, but had nothing but problems with them so I stopped using them. Maybe they have there system working better now. It was 2005 that I opened my account.
(But one of the "problems" I had with them was they were often unable to "locate" my account)

I much prefer to do business with a website that uses Paypal. Although there is nothing wrong with 2Checkout, I consider it to be low quality in comparison to Paypal. Just my two cents

Reasons to have more than one option for paying is if one shuts you down you can still sell.
Also for some psychological reason more options sometimes makes you seem more legit, don't ask me why.

I go back and forth on this as well. PayPal has the caché but I see new or somewhat established up&coming checkout options that I think may offer both myself and my customer an overall better experience.
The ultimate question: "How Do I/They Sell The Customer On Their Product Right Away Up Against The "PayPal-Man" In One 'Pay Now' Button."

I would say the other way round. It is mainly webmasters and eBay users who have PayPal accounts. Whereas other customers may find it a nuisance having to sign up for a PayPal account. I would say offer both options if you can.

You don't have to sign up with Paypal to use them. You can use regular credit cards.

I've changed my mind on a purchase before when I saw it was going through 2Checkout. Didn't feel like filling in all the info they ask for. If it was something I wanted bad enough I'd go through the hassle, but something of mild interest, nope. In my opinion, you'll lose a few sales, but probably not enough to make or break you.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

  • More options to close with.

Anything that makes it easier to pay - makes it easier to buy. (?)

Uh Oh, time for the SPAM Patrol. I'm going to see how many posts he has made and if any are of actual value!

Edit: While he is no great writer, seems only about 50% are SPAM so far. But they are also all in the OT.

I use 2checkout and have never had any problems with them. My customers still have the option for paying through Paypal with 2checkout. The only thing that may turn customers away is that they do have to fill in their details before purchasing, but if they really want your product then that shouldn't be an issue.
