There's just no comparison.

On the one hand you've got a bunch of pansies dressed up in loads of protective gear and 2 second game play whilst on the other hand... you've got the school of hard knocks. The real game. The real deal.

Full length game below 2012 Wales vs France...

Took the words right out of my mouth.

      American football players "pansies"!?

If they didn't wear the gear they wouldn't make through a single season.
And, there would be paralized players, if not dead ones.

You'll have to excuse the little dig at the Americans, couldn't resist it, you have to try any tactic here to get responses - I am a copywriter afterall. It's my job to hit on people's emotions.

No harm or slur intended. Well, not in an unkind way anyway even if it is true.

Mark backs away carefully from said comment grinning.

I knew somebody would bring this up.

It had to be a bloody emmet too lol. Bloody Anglo Saxons.

I think they must have been playing a game of psychological warfare, me? I wouldn't have been seen dead walking out onto the pitch kitted out in that colour lol.

People might get the wrong impression lol.

Mark grins broadly laughing. Streuth! Pink for pete's sake for a rugby team!

What was their manager thinking of?

      Mark -

I agree with you though we don't have a lot of rugby in the deep South.

I'm one of the three people in entire U.S. who don't like football.

The few rugby matchups I've seen were much faster paced and interesting to watch.

The only sports I truly enjoy watching are hockey and horses (any type of horse competition)

I learned a lot about rugby while watching the movie Invictus.

    OK game.

    - The jumping on people and the neck tackles are sloppy.

    - The scrums are corny and messy.

I prefer the precision in the strategic play by play of American football and the cleaner hitting - thanks to all that padding we wear.

I'd think we took the game of rugby and made a cleaner more refined game of it with American football.

    Rugby is OK but...

nothing beats a hotly contested long pass for me or the opening of a hole in the line of scrimmage for a running back.

You're more than welcome to your opinion but you need to stop with the Rugby is better than American football farce.

Actually, the "protective gear" football players wear causes a lot of injuries as well as prevents them.

And if broken bones, torn muscles, players being paralyzed, and players dying isn't tough enough for you, then you sir, are a barbarian. But uh, no offense intended. After all, I write my own copy and need the practice.

Not getting involved in the rugby v gridiron debate (because everyone knows Australian Rules football is the game REAL men play ).

However, I have to correct the above statement. Baseball is actually a refined version of the English game of Rounders, nothing to do with cricket.

Having clarified that, everyone can now carry on with the debate.

I was thrown by the flat bats of cricket and didn't even know about rounders.

We surely improved the layout of the field of play.

We turned a 5 sided thing into a diamond.

We probably made a lot of improvements in the flow of the game.

As far as I'm concerned, you can take all sports and toss them in the trash.

Well, you see that's where I cocked up Dennis. Literally.

My former girlfriend from SF was in fact the senior vice president of Well's Fargo Bank. I could have been set up for life.

But trust me, I put my great big goofy foot in it when I happened to mention one day that her legs looked like thunder thighs (just one of my casual dry observations) and maybe, just maybe she ought to go on a diet? Well, it had to be said.

        Blimey...

        Did fireworks fly or what!

I don't know why she took such umbrage to my aspersion? I was actually trying to say it nicely and thunder thighs I thought to be perfectly honest with you was a most apt description. A compliment even.

The relationship from there went all downhill. And we broke up in 2005. Funny thing is, she now lives in France lol. Running some fancy retirement arty farty interior design business.

You win some you lose some. Don't get me wrong I love Americans, you're a highly entertaining race. Especially so for any British guy with an exceedingly dry razor sharp sense of humor. More than enough material to take the piss out of constantly. It's a compliment I tell 'ee. Gods honest truth. I love you lot. Where else in the universe could you find something like Americans? You're a rare breed. In a class of your own.

European lasses? Oh man, they're just gorgeous, I'm sorry but there's just no comparison.

They're much better looking, sexy, sophisticated, intelligent, gorgeous accents, funny, daring, kind, quick-witted everything a good woman needs to be. And thankfully down south near the Med tens of thousands of brunettes too oooh la laaa. And not one looking like some macho action man on steroids.

They say you're supposed to judge someone not by their looks but by what's in their heart. Well I tried it, believe you me I did in the States but... I'm prone to disagree with the sentiment.

Never again will I go out with an ugly bird. No way. It's just not going to happen. Period. Thankfully in Europe, there's not too many of them. Most of them are just drop dead beautiful with bottoms... no actually, I'll stop right there.

That's clearly a matter of personal taste and not fact. I've been to France, Spain, Italy, Capri, Palma, Israel, Switzerland, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Canada, and many other places ... and in all my travels I found that people are people everywhere you go. Beautiful women, unattractive women, smart women, dumb women, sexy women, mannish women - any way you want to divide them - are everywhere you go. Only if you enter personal biases into it do things change.

In Rugby's case: A bunch of thick, overprivileged public school boys running around like dickheads chasing a leather egg.

Oh, yes - how I agree with you. Being Brits (displaced maybe, but still totally Brits ), my husband and I are both dedicated rugby fans. I come originally from Bath, a city which used to boast one of the best rugby teams in the world; unfortunately they've been in decline over the past few years. Watching rugby on the "Rec" was a way of life.

My brother was a good rugby player and I used to follow his team every Saturday.

During recent years, our patronage has become more eclectic. Decent rugby here in the US is virtually non-existent, although BBC America does show a few games from the UK, but a South African friend is a Super 15, and Currie Cup Rugby freak and he shares all his televised games with us. We love watching the Stormers, Blue Bulls, Sharks, Cheetahs, Lions, etc.

Equally, regular football (soccer to the uninitiated) , once a good game, has now regressed into the realm of cheats and over-paid prima donnas.

I just hope rugby retains its integrity; it's the only decent team sport remaining.

First of all, a game is just that, a game.

I won't speak for rugby since I don't know the sport or the economics but as far as American football is concerned...

      - There's 9 billion in annual revenues to split up.

      - Considering the average length of a career and the potential lifelong injuries that can be inflicted on the players , I'd say their compensation is fair exchange.

Of course some players are overpaid but IMHO lots of players are underpaid.

And to your remark of the players running around like a bunch of dickheads...

... you obviously don't know the game.

( have you ever played any sports??? )

I remember watching a football game over a friends house and a couple of foreigners were on hand.

One ignorantly remarked that all the players were doing was just running around.

As if on que the game color commentator, used the telestrator to show what happened on the previous play with player assignments etc.

The foreigner was stunned and quickly apologized for his ill-informed comment.

Now he's a serious American football fan.

Once again, a game is just that, a game but American football has also become big time entertainment.

Ps. About football players running around...

About 10 years ago, I once witnessed my nephew - at the tender age of 10, who was playing the safety position...

.. actually run around in a huge circle during a play.

He came no where near the action and it was a real hoot.

I quietly talked his coach about it, but didn't let my nephew know I thought it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen - until a couple years ago.

It was rather perturbing at school at 11 years old playing your first few games of rugby.

Thankfully being number 8 I was at the very back of the scrum. But still thrusting your head up in-between two other kids backsides didn't exactly go down too well with me at the time. It was a most unsettling experience I can tell you.

And then there was the odd occasion when you were right at the front of the scrum playing a different position. Arms linked, crouch low and thrust into mateys smelly armpit with punches being thrown left, right and centre at the opposing team hoping by gum the PE (physical education) teacher wouldn't notice.

God help you if the scrum collapsed as you felt your neck bend to some stupid angle. I remember this one kid after a particularly rough scrum collapse the sharp stud of another players boot was pressing really hard on his cheek.

When everyone stood up this kid poked his finger right through the hole in his cheek and wriggled his finger around much to the referees fright. He was very quickly stretchered off the playing field lol and carted off to hospital in an ambulance.

Here's my team in action in London...
