Most people don't really celebrate it either. : ) It's just a holiday where people eat too much chocolate.

I wouldn't go so far as to say most people don't celebrate it. There are quite a number of devout Christians who believe.

I will admit that many use the day as another opportunity to overindulge but everyone that I associate with in the real world takes the day very seriously.

Gee some people will distort anything into an attack on their beliefs .

Not seeing where anyone in this thread is mocking Christians.

        You are mocking Christ.
That's what I see as offensive.
Now you are being even more obtuse pretending you don't get it.

And now we know why religious topics are off limits.

People who are religious take offense to cavalier comments about their beliefs and practices.

People who are not religious don't see the problem.

This is not a winnable debate and usually ends up with more irritation than resolution.

For example I don't understand why a non-religious person would even concern themselves in a thread titled Happy Easter.

A non-religious person sees this as a public forum and therefore can comment where he/she chooses.

    = Disaster.

On that note I'm gone before it's nuked.

If you think this thread warrants being deleted or “nuked” (etc.) you haven't been around here long enough.

As far as I can see, this is a perfectly good adult discussion.

I've been here long enough to know that one wrong comment can turn "a perfectly good adult discussion" into a mess. One seemingly innocuous question/comment can rub someone the wrong way and that's it.

While I have not been around "here" long enough, I've been alive long enough to know when I'm being inconsiderate and insulting. Sadly many people do not have that sense of when to be quiet and things get out of hand.

You mix this with religion and buh-bye perfectly good adult discussion.

We had perfect weather for our neighborhood barbecue! Six grills, four smokers, and enough food to feed Patton's army!

No Easter beagle, though one of the retired snowbird's walking his retrievers stopped by - or, rather, Trixie and Goldie insisted on sitting at the end of my driveway until invited in. Just saying goodbye until autumn. (Long story short, we figured that their breeder also uses the same cologne and also smokes Camel.) I think they'll enjoy the doggie bag I fixed for them

My husband asked me a few days ago...Where did the word "Easter"
come from, He said he thought it was maybe a marketing word...lol

Anyway, my curiosity led me to 'Google it'...

"Easter--the name Easter comes to us from Ostera or Eostre, the
Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring, for whom a spring festival was held
annually, as it is from this pagan festival that some of our Easter
customs have come" (Hazeltine, p. 53).

So, Christians later...interjected their story into it.

I like to celebrate Both! And I especially love the smiles from
the little children at Easter Time:0)

    Happy Easter!
