New Member, Can Someone Point Me in the Right Direction?

I feel very fortunate to have stumbled upon this forum which just might be the only place I can openly discuss my goal of attaining financial freedom on the internet. I would like to tell my story in the hopes that some like-minded individual may be able to point me in the right direction to achieve my goals.
I'm active duty military and recently returned from my third deployment, second one in Afghanistan. During this last tour I came so close to death so many times that I made a decision, an ultimatum to myself. I do not want to spend the rest of my life working for a salary or hourly wages. Life is too short, and I've already come too close to losing it to waste it working hard for someone else the rest of my life.
So far I have bought a website which is designed to resell SEO backlinking services and I am struggling to promote it and make it successful. I'm using a lot of different strategies to do so, including using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and blogging. I have invested more than $2,000 and have yet to make a sale or get any of my investment back. I worry constantly that I am chasing a pipedream and that it's not possible to do this successfully, but this forum gives me hope. I have the advantage of still having a steady and reliable income to support my family with while I experiment with this, but I will be separating from the military soon and if I can make this work than I can afford to let my wife go back to college full time. That is my motivation, and if someone can point me in the right direction to get help with my venture, I'm all ears.
