Bacon Japan: Burger King Japan Practically Giving Bacon Away for Money

Showing they know a thing or two about selling bacon burgers, Burger King Japan has begun offering paying customers the option of super-sizing just the bacon portion of their Whoppers.

For only 100 yen (approximately a buck and a quarter), bacon fiends can get their greasy mitts on 15 extra strips of the good stuff.

I don't know how anyone can stomach "bacon strips"; you need real rashers.

    Exhibit A: Bleeeeuuch!

    WTF?

I've seen nicer-looking things floating my septic tank.

Okay...um..... I don't agree with fast food - it's just plain unhealthy for you.

But I really, really, really want one of those........with cheese.

I know! I want mine with grilled onions!

It's ironic - Kobe beef will cost you a small fortune in Japan, but for 1.25 you can get 15 pieces of bacon on a burger...

I hope this thing comes with a defibrillator...:p

        Or McDonalds.

        True story...

When I lived in Kyobashi just outside of Osaka I would regularly eat at the McDonalds near me when I had a craving for American slop. I'd generally get 2 Double Cheesburgers and since I was the local giant (6'6") everybody knew me.

One day I go there and ask for my usual order and the girl at the counter tells me ,"No doubre cheesebulgels."

So I repeat my order and again she tells me, "No!" I ask a third time, still not understanding why I can't get my double cheeseburgers, and then this time she says "No!" as she makes a big 'X' with her arms crossed. And motions for the dreaded assistant manager to come over.

He points to the menu and says,"No doubre cheesebulgels, only doubre hotty-doggie!". That btw, is a single hot dog roll with two slices cut in it to allow two hot dogs to be placed in it.

Well, I don't want a hot dog, I want my normal meal.

But they flat refused to make it for me.

Now, I used to work the grill at my local McDonalds when I was in high school back in 1969. Making a double cheeseburger is as easy as it gets.

        Somehow...they forgot the recipe...

  • Well c'mon, Bill...you're a Gaijin Godzilla...why didn't you threaten to turn the city to rubble?

You reminded me of a friend of mine. Her son was going on a Choir tour of Japan.

I swear - the first time I met this kid (at 14) I asked if he was born at Three-Mile Island! He was 6'6 by 16, and huge, like the guy in The Blind Side, and African American.

He said he was worried he might get lost in Tokyo. I said Joseph, you are a 6ft six cocoa-jin in Tokyo - trust me -you will be easy to find, don't worry!...

Well if they cook it the same way they do in the states, I don't want it. Microwaved bacon...gross. Of course, maybe I just hate it because a year ago I was the one cooking it...

    1) There aren't a lot of Burger Kings in Japan. Far more Mickey Ds.

    2) Japanese are not as in love with bacon as Americans.

    3) Pigs are cheaper than cattle in Japan. They raise pigs in Japan, but don't have many cattle ranches. Beef is mostly shipped in from overseas.

Are you reading the recent articles in the Wall Street Journal about Kobe beef? According to the articles none of the stuff sold at any priced restaurant in the US is real Kobe beef. It is 100% fake. The US does not allow the import of real Kobe beef. Even by tourists in personal luggage. Certainly not commercially. If you think you're eating Kobe beef in the US you are being ripped off. (And 90% of the sushi restaurants in the US are run by Chinese and Koreans, not Japanese.) Almost everything you think is true is false. But I'm talking to internet marketers. You knew that.

Good points all, and true - for myself, I was only using Kobe beef as a recognizable expensive price comparison to the price of the bacon, and pork is much more readily available, but still not widely eaten...which kind of made me wonder why they were selling this burger in the first place??

Since we are on this subject of bacon, and you and Bill know much more about the local cultures there - I'm curious, are burakumin still considered taboo from other social classes?

This is a subject which IS NOT talked about in polite society. Not. Never. Niente.

A similar subject which is talked about (sometimes, at least) is non-Japanese living in Japan who try to pass themselves off as Japanese. Like Zainichi (the word actually means 'stay in Japan" but is mostly used for Koreans.

Some Zainichi have risen to the highest levels. For instance Princess Masako is probably Zainichi (but she is such a mess that people want to avoid talking about her because she is wierd). Former PM Hatayama is probably Zainichi. Present PM Kan is probably Zainichi. The founder of Softbank is Zainichi. Lotte, of chewing gum and baseball fame, is Zainichi.

Polite people have short conversations about Zainichi but they do not talk about blacks (burakamin).

Well, like I said, I was curious...I thought I would throw the question on the table,...I'm looking at it from the parallax view of an outsider.

Its a shame the Japanese culture and food is becoming more Americanised. I love a burger as much as the next person, but its not a healthy idea. If this keeps up. its probably going to kill more People than smoking in the end.
