There are so many petitions etc. out there right now concerning our privacy-rights-freedoms, you name it....I'm beginning to think it warrants it's own forum right here on the WF!

There is a forum (not here on the WF) where free discussion of anything is already allowed.

Should have been awake a few years ago - about 85% of cars sold now are said to have a rudimentary black box in them.

The initial idea was a good one - to show the actions of the car and driver in the moments just before, during and after an accident.

Expanded to big brother purposes - it could be used to impose a mileage tax in the future, used to track movement without permission, etc. It could also help prosecute criminals using their car for illegal activities or prove your innocence in an accident dispute.

The problem is when you own the car and the black box - you should also fully own the information in that box. This overrides that privacy issue.

In the UK the government are about to pass an act that would allow a special dept access to all your emails, web site searches, texts and phone calls that you make - for whatever reason! Now that is shocking!

I am surprised by the fact that so many don't seem to care, and those that do care do nothing about these attacks on our liberties.

Joe was looking at all his options last year. I don't know if he still is, or if he has already decided.

I hope he chimes back in here, as I'm curious to know his decision.

I am looking to visit 2 countries this year. If you held a gun to my head and said I had to pick today, the countries would be Panama and Thailand.

I have 2 things that I want to have in place before the big move. Note that move and visit are 2 different things.

One, a target monthly online income. That is taking more time than I had hoped but progress is being made.

Two, target debt structure. Thankfully, that is way ahead of schedule.

              So, we'll see.

Yea, I have heard that there are girls in Thailand.

One of the big factors that influence an Asian location is lifestyle for the dollar.

One (or a family) can live "real well" on $3,000 to $4,000 per month.

Maybe there are some others who can chime in on that.

                        Joe -

I've been fascinated by a TV show on HGTV called House Hunters International. Many of the shows originally were about the common "beach" destinations but the show has expanded. The show gives a bit of info about cost of living, transportation, safety, community, etc.

The interesting part is it features a section or area of a country and often that area is quite different than the rep for the country. A recent episode on Columbia is a good example.

Just like "moving to the US" can be anything from living rural to the traffic of Cali or NY....the focus on regional housing and living is interesting. Many of the areas featured are places you wouldn't usually consider.

Frank - if it comes to the point the only option is to leave -- it means there are none of those greater freedoms and liberties.....um...think about it. It's the fact that they are almost gone that is making many Americans consider abandoning ship. I wish they would stay and fight for it instead.

Joe -- what makes you think you can get out of here just because you want to? Getting out might not be any easier for us than it was for people behind the wall (Germany) before they brought it down. Think about it. You might end up forced to stay whether you like it or not. Time better spent fighting to get it back and joining groups that will stand against anything that starts to look like a 1938 German fest.

The scarey part is that those that pay attention and care are so outnumbered.. Too many people pay attention to what the other guy has and scheme to get it away from him. They think that is government's purpose, and do not care about anything else.

That's a good question Frank. I don't think of this in terms of freedom and liberties. I think in terms of opportunities that are a good fit for my lifestyle.

Also, some of the liberties that you enjoyed yesterday are gone today. Even more will be gone tomorrow. The writing is on the wall.

I didn't mean to string this along. I have brought this topic up before but there was little interest.

Let's see, countries that might be worth a look. Panama, Belize, Thailand, Philippines, Paraguay. There are some others but that is the main group right now.

Let me say this!!! Your particular situation will heavily influence a good decision for you. For instance, if you arrange your finances correctly, there are areas in the South of France that can be excellent for retirement. If your finances are not arranged well, this would be a high-tax choice.

I am not an expert. I just learn'in.

Know something -- I'm getting worn out on people being so damned shocked about this crap. People called me a fruitcake for decades when I talked about his crap -- now they are all alarmed and freaked out. Well you know what -- it's YOUR fault that it's happening because you completely neglected to check anything out that anyone said to you -- you were comfy and had everything you wanted in life so just refused to even look at the possibilities. You just told us to shut up and play with our tinfoil.

Kay is right. If you have even a remotely new car, they know every damned move you make in it. SURPRISE. If you use a cell phone, they can track every move you make - unless you go as far as to take the battery out of it. SURPRISE. AND General Patena (sp?) just revealed that the US military is now taking orders from the UN and Nato and a senator has just initiated some sort of action on the issue of Treason. SURPRISE -- stuff you won't hear from the Press which is no longer free, but corporate run and partisan. SURPRISE.

Seeing how you were all screaming tinfoil and calling other citizens names instead of at least looking into what people doing their due diligence were trying to tell you, you might consider turning off your damned TV's and quit texting and help us try to FIX things.

I am surprised by the fact that so many don't seem to care, and those that do care do nothing about these attacks on our liberties.
It becomes a useless endeavor - and fact is YOU can control some of it if you want to. The problem is people are wusses today - they want to complain and protest as long as they don't have to give up any of their conveniences.

Facebook does not protect your privacy - but do you use Facebook anyway? Most people seem to.

New cars have the black box - if you don't want it, keep an older car in good working condition instead of buying a new one.

Some things I find are worth fighting for - and some aren't. Not many average people are able or willing to spend hours every day or week focused on "what might happen" or "who is trying to do what" unless it directly impacts their bottom line or directly threatens their personal lifestyle.

It's human - you can only do so much; you can only control so much. Choose your battles - you can't fight everything. There's not enough time in a life. Spending every day worried what "might happen" wastes a day when you could enjoy what goes on around you.

Aside from identity theft - I don't worry much about someone knowing what I do or where I go. I don't do anything illegal and I have nothing to hide. I may not like being "tracked" - but there's some humor in knowing just how boring the results would be to anyone watching.

I see your point somewhat, but by the time you are ready to fight, there may be a lot of things passed into laws or written into regulations that will make your fight difficult/impossible. That 'ol slippery slope don't you know.

Sometimes when you wait around to pick your battles the war will be lost.

.....not shocked about this latest assault. There are so many. We have so many unelected bureaucrats writing rules and regulations that we have to live by. From the EPA to OSHA to who knows what, regulations are written with no thought to the small business owner or private property owner or average person who has to jump through hoops to comply.

How about congress passing so many things without reading them (the health care law comes to mind). How about congress exempting themselves from the laws they pass?

When the masses start playing chicken little the time to have stopped or at least slowed these things will have long passed.

Too many people have the opinion "That will never affect ME"

Sal, I'm not the least bit shocked at technology and vehicles. They are even talking about installing a devise that would determine if you have alcohol in your system, thus disabling your ability to start the vehicle. This technology already exists, so I imagine it will just be a matter of time before it becomes mandatory. This is technology I would welcome.

When I posted about a separate forum just for petitions, I was referencing our freedoms when it comes to the internet etc. Big Brother has no place in our homes - I wasn't clear on that fact. I'm sick and tired of the powers that be trying to pass legislation behind our backs.

We DO have the power to stop anything and every bit of it. We have to quit kibbling with each other and join en-mass to get rid of any politician who supports radical invasions of privacy - just kick their asses out of office. They get their pensions whether they are re-elected or not so why do they care what you want? They just get in there for their own wealth. If you KICK them OUT they don't get those benefits anymore. So cut the "wait til November rhetoric" - they laugh at that crap.

You want to stop a corporation? Find a local company that can provide a duplicate service and tell them to get ready. Then quit buying from and quit working for the offensive corporation. They can't operate without employees and customers. Don't ask the gov to do regulate, that just compounds the problem. Get your community involved to take it back on a local level - - be ready to help support anyone who is unemployed until the jobs open back up at the local company. Give them a room in your house or start a community fund for them. Then watch the monster collapse when everyone just turns them off. Good way to get the money back into the community that is going to globalists or outsourced workers, too.

We can take it back -- it just takes unity, commitment, and more action that whining on forums. I've been involved at this level for years, and with everyone else just whining when they even notice anything at all, there's been no support for me for the effort. So at this time I'm strapped and just plain pissed off at my fellow citizens and their little consumer habits. If there were 5 more out of every 10 doing the same as I have been doing for a decade now, we'd already have had this crap licked.

Kay - you might think that there's nothing so traumatic about people watching you when you are doing "nothing illegal" but consider this -- who's watching you when you are in a store dressing room or a public restroom? There are vans now that are equiped with technology that can see right through your home's walls. Do you not mind having some perv in a van watching you on the toilet, in the shower, or during intimate times with a man? I'd think the perverts they hire would get major enjoyment from watching such "mundane and legal" activity.

I have looked at other options. I'll check back here and read to see if there is a better place to go.

I am not one bit surprised about this or anything else that is passed in the middle of the night by these snake oil salesmen who parade around the capitol pretending to be civil servants.

I'll admit that my eyes were shut and I had my head in the sand until about three years ago. I don't much understand the way things work here in the once Good O'l US of A so I chose to stay ignorant.

However, when I started advocating for struggling homeowners, I researched and found out more information than I wanted to know. One thing lead to another. And then another. And then another. At that time, I was shocked. Shocked that this crap has been going on for a long time but a terrible feeling of hopelessness.

    What can one person do?

Well, one person can make a change.

I started typing what I did but it was taking a wrong direction.

I'll just say I spent an incredible amount of time on the phone, sending emails and yelling from the top of the hills in Texas.

As a matter of fact, I have.

He was a mentor and friend to a lady I know (she was the black sheep in an old money family) in New England for many years. She participated in MANY roundtable discussions at his home and was a member of his Einstein Institute(??....not sure of the name.)

She has given most of her life to teaching "non-violent protest" and is actually a very effective organizer. She was most recently arrested at the Vermont-Yankee Nuclear plant with a group of ladies (one in her EIGHTIES!) after they chained themselves to a gate...

I'm not going to make this political - but just about 'civil servants" and the GSA hearings, this really cracked me up...
The regional executive who hosted the Western Regions Conference, Jeffrey Neely, invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and his chair remained empty the rest of the House Oversight and Government Reform hearing. He could face a criminal investigation.
When they asked him what his job title was ...he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights...

When Jeffrey Neely was questioned about anything he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights...

When was the last time you tried that when YOU got called into the bosses office to get chewed out?

This stuff has got go...between Bureaucrats who think they can spend like kings, and the Plutocrats who are treated like one...I'm not sure where to start.

If I was Neeley, and knew I was going to be the one to get hosed and have to take one for the team...and that meant jail time - I would start fingering people like a commie witch hunt - screw em', I ain't going down alone...

Lori -- that's where a corporate owned media and a militarized police comes in handy. Once people even FIND OUT about anything and organize a peaceful protest, they are very good at making it look like violent police attacks on peaceful protesters were actually provoked by crowd violence. Smoke and mirrors.

oh btw - I agree with Sharp and saw it work in Egypt -- but with the technology now available to our leaders, I think if we make one mistake this election - including not monitoring EVERY poll location for fraud, that it will have become to late to actually do much about the situation without a civil war. I hope that is wrong, but I'm looking at the power that they have and the total insanity over wealth and power that the top dogs have........as well as part of the reason for the mass concern at taking power right NOW.

Frankly I'm not sure what to think other than we are in for some major scary times by the end of the next decade - due to our own ignorance and carelessness as a species. I'm not sure whether what the gov is doing is to make sure they rule the world when it's over, or whether it's to save at least a portion of the population. Can't figure out what their rational is yet. Although I do know that the Milineum doctrine (sp?) was the overt document and am more that slightly sure contingency plans have been made covertly to handle the situation as it goes into emergency stages.

Nope that's where you want to put your focus, for now.
I'd do a 3 court press on your house reps.
Send them a letter by snail mail detailing your concerns with the bill.
Get as many other people as you can to do the same.
Follow up a week or so later by email asking if they received you letter(s) and had a chance to read them.
Give them a week or so to reply.
If you get a reply and it's to your liking, keep an eye on the timing of the voting and remind them just before it goes to vote that they support you view.
If you don't get a reply or you get one you don't agree with, get on the phone and ask for an explanation as to why.
Go back to the snail mail letter with your rebuttal and repeat the process.
Do your homework and give valid reasons why you are opposed to either the whole bill or a portion of it. Check it against the constitution.
Common sense and logic are good tools to use when forming your petition also
