When a person becomes exceptionally successful, why do people automatically start “hating” them, and talking badly about them?
When I see someone more successful than me I either A. Look at them as inspiration (etc.) or B. Am completely indifferent.

Why do people do this? Is it jealously or what?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

My original answer was because people are idiots, but jealously works I guess.

Because it may have them reflect on themselves. So feels of envy, resentment, jealousy, self failure etc...all start bubbling up.

To paraphrase George Bernard Shaw, they are a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making them happy.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

  • I think it might depend on whether the person is viewed as successful, or lucky.

Both involve envy, true - but one normally has respect, the other disdain.

      Simply put, haters will hate.

If not over someone's success or good fortune, then over something else.
