It might interfere with flight systems.

Apparently pilots don't think so. Texting distracted this one and he forgot to lower the landing gear.

Well now, doesn't that just make a person feel safe to board an enormous piece of metal that hurtles through the sky at hundreds of miles an hour, and is capable of dropping like a rock from same said sky in a nano second, obliterating all life aboard.

It is damaging enough to text while you drive into someones living room, but worrying about a cell phone at 30,000 feet while you are in charge of the lives of numerous people seems a wee bit irresponsible.

If I am going to get into a huge metal tube that flies through the air, I would prefer my pilot had slept eight hours, did not drink his or her breakfast, and had their cell phone battery pulled out just to make sure it wouldn't make any "noises".

And yes, I prefer to drive

  • When I saw this story earlier...mt first reaction was 'the pilot is an idiot' - but where was his co-pilot? Why were they both clueless? This story explains why they were...but that still is no excuse - It was not OK for passengers, but its OK for him...

At around 720 feet above ground, the plane let off an alert that the landing gear had not been deployed. The captain tried to lower it, but by then the plane was too low for the landing gear to be extended and locked into place. At 392 feet, the captain elected to abort the landing and return to the skies. The plane later touched down safely.
How long does it take to deploy landing gear if it can't be extended into place from 720ft!?
