Pinterest's problems began with their original Terms and Conditions. News went viral when a blogger (I believe it was a lawyer) reported that Pinterest's terms and conditions not only failed to protect users but also potentially put users at greater risk if a copyright claim were made against Pinterest for what the user posted. Further, their terms and conditions also handed the rights to what users posted to Pinterest, allowing them to sell user content as if it were their own. When all this surfaced tons of people closed their Pinterest accounts in fear or anger or maybe both. Since then I believe Pinterest has changed their terms and conditions in response. I can't say what those changes were, though I believe they gave up the right to sell user content.

I think that may be the copyright issue(s) you're referring to?
