I just read that an hour or so ago. Between that story and the other little girl I read about this morning (Who had cerebral palsy) I'm still angry...

That kind of crap is simply NOT acceptable.

That is incredibly stupid. Do such morons really make the United States safer? The only intelligence I see in the follow-the-money trail are the scanning-equipment vendors and related security service businesses.

    Thunderbird,

Obviously, that thinking is STUPID! I can UNDERSTAND the idea of a steril area AND, as the name implies, she became DIRTY when she hugged her grandmother, but they SHOULD have simply treated her like she never went through, and repeated.

she looks HARMLESS! She is a little girl, obviously comfortable in her dress, and is 4yo! That is old enough to communicate, etc... and probably a bit TOO young to be a spy. Heck, the couple could probably show ids, and proof of where they were, etc...

What the heck is going on?

      That was entirely unacceptable!

It seems anyone given a tad bit of authority takes it over and beyond what was intended! How have we employed power hungry adults in positions where they can abuse little children?

Society at large is becoming out of control!

Father's outrage as TSA subjects his wheelchair-bound three-year-old son to humiliating search... on his way to Disney

Read more: TSA subject child in a wheelchair to invasive airport security tests in Chicago | Mail Online

This is outrageous, yet I have to question the motives behind parents who are subjecting their children to this form of abuse in the first place. The parents should know that nobody is immune from despicable pat-downs.

Until new regulations are put into place, take a bus, train, boat or anything to avoid this - or stay home.

To the best of my knowledge, there are only TWO decent disney parks in the US. One is in florida, which is pretty far away, and several hours by air. The other is in California even FARTHER away! You DON'T want to drive or even take a train. And their is NO way to get there by boat in a reasonable span of time. You would have to go to the east coast, which is a long drive, sail to florida, and take another decent drive to disney world.

I agree Jody - WTF is wrong with people's heads that they continue to fly with the TSA playing Germany circa 1938? So much for the land of the free. People - stop flying. Period. Write to your legislators and tell them you have stopped. Write to airlines and tell them no more until they get rid of the gestapo.

Jody and Sal, your solutions are just not feasible.
First, The airlines have nothing to do with this Sal, These are government actions that the airlines also have to put up with to stay in business.Sal, you have the procedure wrong, people need to write to the legislators and tell them to get rid of the TSA,not the airlines.

As far as driving or taking a train or riding a bus instead, that also isn't feasible for a lot of folks. I have a week or say even a 2 week vacation fron work.
My kids want a nice vacation, I can fly and we can be there in hours, or drive and spend a week on the road just traveling to and from. Like it or not I would choose to fly.

That said I still think the whole TSA agency is illegal and cotrary to our civil rights, but 9/11 scared the public so much that it was very easy to push through the (anti) patriot act.

Kim, I would be finding someplace else to vacation, period.

I worked with adult students who for years had been sexually abused as children. For years, children were too afraid to say anything - just look at the adults/stars etc. now coming forward on national tv, revealing the abuse they suffered as a child.

We have worked too damn hard trying to educate children that it's NOT ok for somebody to touch them inappropriately. Not all children will come forward and report such incidents, yet some will - we are slowly making progress.

Now, we have children being patted down, scared to death - what the hell kind of message are we sending? Children are getting very mixed messages here, that it's ok for some strangers to touch you, but not others. How are our children to know the difference.

Flying, for the sake of convenience, it's not worth it. Violating our children for the sake of a 2 week vacation - I have to wonder who's the parent here? Somebody has to protect the children, at ALL costs.

Bull****. Corporations OWN this country, Kim. I said write to BOTH - not just one or the other. We need airlines to start putting pressure on the gov to stop the crap, too. Corporate money talks, Kim. If we talk to the airlines about their money -- they sure will up the ante to get congress to put a stop to the bs.

And I KNOW that not flying is inconvenient -- it's really unfortunate that maintaining your freedom is inconvenient - but nobody ever said keeping free is easy or always fun to do. We have men in arms dying to defend our freedom yet we can't quit flying for a little while to straighten out a naziesque overthrow of our civil rights?

Yeah. Whatever. Good job. We wouldn't want anyone to upset their schedule to roll back an increasing threat to our ability to travel with a bit of freedom. When you are standing in line to see if you can get permission to fly or even to drive out of state -- remember that your convenience was much more important than your freedom.

    Don't worry,
I'm not justifying the actions of the TSA.
I just offered what to me,is a very logical answer to your question. That doesn't mean I agree with it.
And I agree, Society is sending a barrage of mixed messages to children of today.
I even mention that in a thread that is going now about a sport "figure" though I wouldn't call him that.
While I am not going into a big discussion about this, we just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Kim, that wasn't meant as a personal attack on you!

TSA needs an overhaul. Just heard on the news where some TSA employees took a bribe to allow drugs pass though...haha....maybe that will shake things up a bit.

We quite often agree to disagree.

I heard that as well, Jody, along with the concern that they could be bribed to let terrorists through as well.

It'll be interesting to see what they do about it. I can't help but think they may employ even more stringent regulations before one can fly.

Heaven forbid they make it a more pleasant experience for us.

At first when I read this story, I was outraged...but then....after hearing several security experts explain the situation and why the TSA official did this, I changed my mind.

Basically what they said was that when the little child ran back through the metal detector to hug the grandmother, it looked like a practiced scripted event. So that is why they took action. It is better to be extremely safe than sorry later on.

The little child could very easily have been told to do this and it could have been practiced. To use children is something that has been done before by terrorists and criminal organizations. Even some cartel members are using pre-teens to carry out assassinations, so it is not out of the realm of possibility. (this kind of child exploitation is extremely sad)

YEAH, and that is why they should run her through the system again. That does NOT mean that they have to treat her like some terorist. Given the family, and occasion, there is a VERY low risk! You know, we COULD insist that everyone go through naked, with metal detectors, possibly xray machines, and protologists, obstetricians, and dentists and ENT doctors to ensure almost nothing gets past, and NO carryons or checked luggage. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would be FAR better than today.

Frankly, that WOULD get me to stop, job be DAMNED!

There are plenty of things that "could" happen at any time, are we going to have TSA workers everywhere? In malls, shops, concerts, sports staidums radiating or molesting us?

The world is a dangerous place, and you have more chance of dieing from a bee sting then dieing from a real terrorist attack.

I'm not saying we should do nothing and hope for the best but these security measures are way over the top, someone who still has some decency should be able to see that.

As I keep saying we havent seen anything yet. This is going to look like childs play once you really see what they are going to do to us.

As I have said for the past 11 years, UBL won! In the last week or so, a person said the goal was to hurt the US economy. Figures. We were JUST starting to see recovery from 1999 before 9/11, and 9/11 STOPPED THAT! Did we EVER recover? I don't think so. And 7 years later??? UBL did more than nearly any terrorist in history, especially considering what little direct help he had. But with people that have a mantra of "Don't let a disaster go to waste", what do you expect?

If we profile, it is NOT racism! HECK, they are considered CAUCASION! As for being discrimination? EVERYONE here discriminates! If you didn't, you would eat soap, or try to pet a bear at the zoo, have someone off the street invest your money, etc... Living creatures that are sentient in any way discriminate to CONTINUE living!

Since PC has distorted the language, the word USED to mean like anything BUT #1 Discriminate | Define Discriminate at Dictionary.com

HEY, if they scream discrimination, say the TRUTH! SO many of them see this as OK, and SO FEW fight against it, that they should be singled out NOT to harass THEM, but make things safer for ALL while harassing others LESS! What if a good and bad muslim fly, and ALL die because you didn't fully search the bad muslim to be PC?

Christian and secular woman can't hide behind whatever, so why should islamic be able to? And if islamic women are *******SO******* pious, they can stop SCREAMNG that they aren't. Driving and flying alone, etc... SCREAM that they are not so pious. If they can do THAT, they can uncover like everyone ELSE!
