With CISPA lurking to infringe on our rights...

If you could design a internet users bill of rights etc. what protections would you put in it??

Here's one off the top of my head...

- Companies can not ask for your social media information.

Note: Only one suggestion per post but you can post as many suggestions as you like.

ISP's to not keep records of where you've been and what you've been looking at.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Fat chance that'd ever come about. The only reason they're kept for anything length of time is because it's illegal to NOT keep them. IOW, the government wants the records, not necessarily the companies.

The purpose of this thread is to make suggestions as to what should happen, which I did.

Now after shooting that one down, how about adding what you think SHOULD be in an IUBOR.

        Look forward to it.

My POINT was that something like that would NEVER make it into any kind of law. It's kind of like saying, "I wish for everlasting world peace." It would be very nice, and wonderful to have, but if something like this is ever going to gain any kind of traction at all, there has to be a little bit of realism involved.

What I would put in a IUBOR? In the preamble:
"It is important for the internet user to understand that though this Internet User's Bill of Rights is in place, there have been, are, and always will be those who sidestep the law for their own purposes. Therefore, treat the Internet as a 'buyer beware' product: never give out any information that you don't wish to have others (possibly everyone) know, because depending on others to guard your personal information is a fool's errand."

Ha! Sorry - I'm the product of my kids refusing to talk on the phone. Their primary form of communication with me is text messaging. It was 'adapt and learn or be left out'.

    TL,

If that is constructive, then I will tell you EXACTLY what to do!

Make it to where you can, and cannot, be tracked, followed, friended, etc....

There you have it! Do THAT, and nobody can complain!

YEAH, I KNOW! Doing half negates the other half as they are mutually exclusive.

  • SPAM rules require emails and communications sent for solicitation purposes have an OPT-OUT that is respected, and that phishing is punishable by international law - and strictly enforced and prosecuted by accepted codes.

(These infractions are tallied by number of complaints as ISPs do now, but they allow users steps to filter the incoming mail more securely and effectively help police the system. Email opt-outs are not to be used to determine active addresses for more spamming.)

(and no, not by CISPA, SOPA, or ACTA, or any other CRAPA...this deals strictly with 419 and related spam, in which the only purpose is to steal private information by deception.)
