In light of all the general topics being discussed around here recently, I thought I would start one of my own.
So, do you like your dreams better than your reality? .jrd P.S. I have had a few dreams that I didn't want to wake up from but so far, I have tended to "wake up" each morning. I hope 'waking up' lasts many many more years for me ![]() P.P.S. No, I am not a spam-bot |

What if you can't distinguish between being asleep or being awake?

Jared - Were you that strange character that sat in the back of my epistomology class? The one that looked kinda like he might be a bot, btw.
If you can't distinguish between the two there would be no point in wondering which you prefered, eh? |

Oh by the way - I would much prefer to be awake, yet I find my dreams, while not preferable to waking life, extremely interesting to contemplate. It disappoints me furiously to be awakened rapidly - such as an alarm clock or a dog barking because I can't remember my dreams as fully as when I can wake up slow and think about them as I gain consciousness.

Neither of the above, really. I can't tell if there even is a difference. You see, it's like this. Reality is only a perception in sort of a mind-brain dance. For example, using dream researchers' tools, functional magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography (PET) scanning, have been used for some time to capture the waking brain at work--making decisions, feeling frightened or joyous, coping with uncertainty. And those efforts have shown clearly that psychology and physiology are intimately related. In someone suffering from an anxiety disorder, for example, the fear center of the brain the amygdala--"lights up" as neurons fire in response to images that trigger anxiety; it flickers in a minuet with the center of memory, the hippocampus. Scanning people who are sleeping suggests that the same sort of mind-brain dance continues 24 hours a day. In reality, there is nothing but dreams. What was the question again? I must have dosed off.

Both situations depend on the company.
However, on reflection, I enjoy being awake and following my curiosity regardless of who I'm with. Ivan |

I definitely prefer dreaming to being awake.
In my dreams I have no physical disabilities and don't have people hanging around waiting for me to either help them or collapse in a heap. It may be something to do with age, but I find that I am aware that I am dreaming and can manipulate the dream so that I can do things that are impossible in real life (normal, every day things - not Superman things). Another aspect of my dreams, which is not so comfortable, is that often I am aware that I am preparing for my death and this aspect I cannot control. It's a bit like getting ready to go on holiday, knowing that you aren't coming back. |

My 4 year old son is disabled, his syndrome often means that he stays awake for 48hrs+ at a time - so our household is up pretty much around the clock!

Yeah I heard of a man that had major sleeping disorders and does not sleep ever. The good thing though was he feels normal and not weak. I'm not sure if I'll like it or not though I think I can get "more" of life that way.
An average human sleeps a total of 25 years in his entire life. That's a lot of TIME to to rather be awake right.. but oh well.. |

Sleeping is the one of the most enjoyable hobbies there is. No worries, no pain, no nothing except la la land.
Wouldn't it be cool if we could invite people to our dreams and explore dream land together having the exact same dream

Hi thanks for asking its a mental and physical disability called angelman syndrome, it effects co-ordination between brain and body - unfortunately it also means he may never be able to talk or walk un-aided. However his brain is over stimulated very easyily, and lucky for us our little boy finds everything so wonderfully amusing, so our days are spent with him giggling and chuckling away - no one meets him and leaves without a smile themselves ![]() amazingly though i do infact get a lot of work done - (although that may change very soon as we are expecting a healthy baby girl in april! ), i guess it certainly helps being a stay at home dad with my own home office now and also being a night owl! ![]() saying thats is almost 3pm and he will be getting in from school shortly and im ready to crash! LOL | |

I read a study one time that showed some people dream in black and white and some in color because of the introduction of the television during that era. I most definitely dream in color and remember many of my dreams.
For years I used to dream about my teeth suddenly falling out. I wish I had a concrete answer as to what it meant. Every "dream dictionary" tells you differently. Obviously I take amazing care of my teeth so there's no real danger in that happening but it's still weird

I love going to bed when I'm tired, but get up the moment I wake up. I hate staying in bed, even if I'm unwell.
Did you know it's the most dangerous place to be? Statistics show more people die in bed than anywhere else! Ray |
