Default Question About Breathing

Do you breathe through your nose, or your mouth? Breathing through the nose is much healthier, because the nasal hairs act as filters to remove contaminants before they can reach the lungs. But many people bypass this safety mechanism by breathing through their mouth and exposing fragile air sacs to harmful contaminants. Boogers are a solid indication your filters are working.

I have been taught by my martial arts instructors to breathe in through my nose, and out through my mouth... however, I tend to breathe just through my mouth when I am sleeping... not a good thing I've heard...

I try my best when I am awake to breathe deeply in through my nose, and then slowly exhale through my mouth. I've found this technique to be the best.

When climbing if I start mouth breathing I will get stabbing pains in my side. If you are exercising and feel this, shut your mouth and breath through your nose and the pain will go away.

If you exhale through your nose in short bursts, you will experience a congestion ejection. Ideally, eject through one nostril at a time, away from people, pets, and furniture. This may cause a minor but temporary inconvenience to those around you, but your natural filters can then be restored to function properly. Stubborn residue may have to be removed discretely. You should keep your filters cleaned through regular maintenance, which will prevent clogging buildup.

I actually practice breathing daily...no seriously...it's a kundalini yoga thing: intentional breathing.

one of the most common exercises is to breathe through one nostril at a time, (plugging up the other nostril with your thumb...on the outside, not inside!) it's supposed to increase circulation and whatnot.

Have to say, since starting yoga 15 or so years ago, I rarely breathe through my mouth...it's always through the nose. And usually when I get stressed, I automatically revert back to yogi training of curling the tongue against the roof of the mouth.

*sigh* I'm such a happy hippie...

This thread title cracked me up.

I'm thinking, mate if you haven't figured it out by now...

I breathe through my nose. Unless I try jogging. Then I suck wind through every orifice.

{Confidential} - BIG up-front and $1000+ per month... Scott - $45,000 in 3 months!

Breathing is one of the best forms of exercises as defined in yoga.

There are several techniques to breathing and some exercises can relieve asthma and

even help stabilise weight.

lmao....i completely concur

I usually breathe thru my nose, but when doing meditation or relaxation, I get more immediate and "deeper" results by breathing in thru the nose & out thru the mouth...but then I tend to get too relaxed and fall asleep

Actually a rather simple device and technique could help train you to remember to breathe.

You'll need
1)5 Gallon bucket(local lake or pond would work if bucket is unavailable. Garbage cans work well too!)
2)4.687 gallons water,COLD
3) 1-assistant,very strong

A-Insert head into bucket deep enough to completely submerge head
B-Assistant holds your head under water until you tell him the secret signal to let you up.

Oops! forgot to add item 4.any signal you want, be certain to tell the assistant. A dry run is advised.Have the assistant give me a call and I'll tell him a neat trick that will REALLY get you to remember to breath.

There was a blonde that frequented a gym. She always wore headphones while there.
One gentleman interested in the woman became curious about what she was listening
to and asked if he may listen himself. She refused to take the headphones off. As he
persisted, she told him she could not take them off. He persisted. Finally she agreed
to let him listen but told him only for a few seconds. She took the headphones off and
he put them on. As he was adjusting them he turned and saw the woman crumple to
the floor just as he heard what was on the headphones - "in....out....in....out".

LOL!

Breathing in through your nose is also a mechanism which will activate the lymphatic system which is great to get rid of the unwanted waste in your body. Its amazing how we have this natural form of immunity and a way to really energize ourselves.

In all seriousness - you can do amazing things to improve your
body and brain function with breath alone. I've studied
yoga for a while and really the breathing exercises are highly
beneficial. Called "pranayama"

Sometimes I breathe through my nose, other times through my mouth, it really just depends on the situation. I say as long as oxygen gets in there (my lungs of course) then I'm content with how I do it.
