Superfluous Products
I'm a pretty easy sale, really, and do get swayed by hype. The price of having an open mind is that it is can cause someone to take pointless excursions. As before, I've purchased WP plugins that seemed to offer promise then turn out to be superfluous, derivative, and clunky. The latest bogus craze is "curation." Curation is a term most commonly used in the context of museum curators who collect and organize items for display in the museum. Now, something really old when it comes to Internet is being repackaged like a new discovery. Collecting and organizing news feeds and articles is fu##ing "editing" not, cough, "curation.". That is what editors do. Curators work in museums. There are loads of free ways to display newsfeeds on wordpress sites, and lots of ways to collect articles from article directories to display on a site. It is incredible that that would be presented as something new. It is even more incredible to me that I'd be suckered into it yet again by newfangled words for commonplace stuff.
