Here's an idea.

Get all the Elvis look-a-likes in the world and have an Elvis Idol contest.

The contestants will have a 90 second duplicate scene from critics choice of old Elvis movie scenes to act in.

The winners will go on to even longer scences of old Elvis movies for the final winner.

This could be done with any look-a-like celebrities that had some amount of film career.

Who ever does this, the views of this thread are my witnessess to this idea and I'll expect a paypal link to my PM box for reaccuring royalities, thanks. :-)

    Great idea!

Apparently, Elvis's favourite Elvis impersonator was Andy Kaufman, unfortunately Andy wouldn't be able to enter your contest...

      Nice.

Genius is somewhere between Talent and Insanity.

When I look at actors like Gary Busey doing Buddy Holly or Johnny Cash being done by
Joaquin Phoenix, these guys go into multiple personalities, almost schizto to get so close, thats why if it were not for acting, they would probably be criminals or locked-up in the asylum.

I think you really got to tap into some amount of darkside to act, look at Robert DiNero and Al Pacino.

An amount of controlled or semi-controlled psychosis.

Thanks for that. I'd never seen Gary Busey playing Buddy Holly, but when I visited YouTube and saw it then shivers went up my spine--the performance was truly excellent.

As you say, some actors get so seriously into the role, they live and breathe as that person. When Jim Carrey played Andy Kaufman in Man On The Moon, he got into the Andy Kaufman/Latka Graves/Tony Clifton characters perfectly for 3 straight months--even Andy's best friend Bob was amazed how accurately Jim had transformed--so much so that there was none of Jim's character left...

Another Elvis impersonator I like is Garry Wesley, he looks a bit like Elvis but has the mannerisms, the voice, the clothes, the charisma, the full package. The huge audiences react the same way as if it were Elvis.

They say even when at home, off the set, into real life, he stayed on that character, insane dedication.

I betcha they do that thinking they are "channeling" his spirit or gathering residual essence still left here after they pass.

      Now thats "out there".

Just got thru watching Garry Wesley doing Elvis.

Holy-ee cow, do it so matter-of-fact, without much "forcing it".

Even minute facial expressions , too much.

The Human Mind has yet to be explored and tapped.

Like I heard several stories of some guys , who adopt a son from an infant or up to pre-teens.....they positively have NO resemblance, at first.

But depending on the relationship, nuturing and like-mindedness, when that kid gets to be 18 and older, he's almost a spitting image of his adoptive father, mannerisms, voice ,attributes, etc., almost in some cases frightingly close as a clone.
