I don't know how many contributions this thread gets unless folks just toss any
old thing onto it, but this may be the definitive song of a generation that I know
I NEVER played for my mother when it was out.

This is a song don't play for anyone.As a matter of fact I say listen at your own risk. Pretty obscene and not what I expected when I bought the album Broken English.

The very first song I listened to that I didn't want my mother to hear me play was Louie Louie. Imagine my surprise (and embarrassment) when it came on the radio and she started singing along

Second would be Uncle Meat by Zappa, then MC5.

I still listen to American Idiot in its entirety at least once a week. I never understood why people hated on it so much. I actually feel that Jesus of Suburbia is the best song they've done, period.

My Mother did not allow swearing in her house, it was just not done. My sister dropped some food in her lap at dinner one night, looked down, and she said "sh#t" - then miss "goody two-shoes" looked at my Mom ...and my older brother laughed so hard he fell out of his chair. HE got in more trouble than my sister!! :p

She liked 'nice clean cut' Beatles, especiall Paul, and Ringo, for some reason, because he sang a song she remembered from her youth, "Whispering grass, don't tell the trees" on "Ringo" - but she came home one day while "Working Class Hero" was on, right when John says "you're still (effin') peasants"... and it was funny...she looked at me, then at the stereo, like she was disappointed in both me AND Lennon! And said: Well! that's just about enough of that in this house! I said, geez Mom, I didn't say it!!!

That song would be considered mild by today's standards...

I can tell you a song that I wish my mom had never heard.

I had just got back from the mall and put on my new album "Get The Knack" and had gone to my room to put away the other stuff I had bought when my mom came home. I had the stereo in the living room blaring so loud that I didn't even know she had come home until I heard the the needle scratching across the whole album.

I went back to the living room to see what was going on and my mom had a dirty look on her face and just said," I don't think so!"

And that was that.
