At the Deadly-Serious Risk of a Repetitious Posting

I've tried for an hour to figure out this 30-post rule.

Groucho wondered why anybody would join a club that would have him
as a member....

Mike wonders why people would want to read 30 of his posts
any one of which could conceivably contain at least some hint
of seeking to add more notches under his forum belt.

Sections of the forum don't let me post until
I've scored another coupla dozen hits. Off-Topic seems the only
place where I can say anything at all. I do have intelligent things
I could contribute...so why make it so ^*^$^ difficult for me
by letting me practice, padding around for the sake of it?

I s'pose you think I'll be distracted into going so far off-topic
that I'll end up Bang On-Topic re 9-11 and tell you how I know
that no Boeings crashed into any building that day, simply because
official records show that only 2 of the 4 planes actually left
the ground, and those 2 were both still flying in 2005.***

You'd be right, of course....but I've just shown that a one-eyed
IM type like can also type something creative which exactly fits the
Section Heading.

Or have I just proven why it is you guys want to make it so
hard for me to actually put up 30 posts?

I s'pose this question comes up tirelessly, timelessly...
but why do I have to work so hard when I need to be
productive on this confounded computer?

Groucho had a darned good point to make, then too.

I'll be happy to tell you why those rules were put in place.

Fact is, some of those who are new here are great people - they want to learn, don't mind doing some work, have loads of common sense....but then there are the others (also known as the majority these days)....

That's the newbie who joins because he read you could make money off members here - the new person who is here to blast others or try to impress them with big stories....and also quite a few who were banned and come back under new names.

Posts in the Off Topic and test sections don't count because newbies were posting garbage just to up their post count - so they could run a WSO.

Limiting the activity for a few days gives members a chance to warn those newbies who did not bother to read the rules and are posting affiliate links, trying to advertise their site, trying to build an mlm downline, etc.

You can post in the main forum - express an opinion or offer an answer (IF you know the answer), or ask questions yourself ....and those posts count.
If you post one line idiocies such as "thank you for sharing" (there's a "thanks" button for that) or trite comments you get weeded out before you have a chance to sell to people here.

The common complaint is "I don't have enough posts to PM people" - but why would someone brand new need to PM people? Why would someone be desperate to have "enough posts" the first day or two after joining? Do they expect riches on the third day?

As you seem to have joined the WF in 2006 - where the heck have you been? :p

    Mike,

You sound like a cool guy to me... if I could make those 30 posts for you, I would.

Here's why the rule is in place: to discourage spammers/scammers

It's that simple... this forum had a burst of spam PM's and scam WSO's not too long ago, so the only thing to do was put some limitations on these idiots.

Nothing personal, the admin is just trying to protect other members... which is an insanely tough job.

It's like running a city... with 100k+ members, you can't just let people roam around and do what they want... you need some enforcement to keep the rules in check.

Anyways, with your writing style, I'm sure you will be able to comment on some topics with quite a bit of knowledge to share, maybe start a few threads yourself, ask some questions, get involved with the discussions, and you will reach your 30 post count in no time.

It's not really "work" in my eyes... more like "play"

If you are wondering why someone would want to read 30 of MikeR's posts, well, wonder no more... I would read them, as well as many others who 'get what you are saying'.

I agree! Clearly someone with something to say. He just needs to get those fingers moving on the keyboard a few times!

Hi Mike - Welcome to the Warriors .........

The others have already said about what there is to say so I guess now all you have to do is look at is as being Hazed for a fraternity and it won't seem so bad - or take very long to get your count going.

You got in at the right time anyhow - it used to be the rule that if you were new you had to buy the beer - now all you have to do is talk a little bit in the main forum. Your gain - our loss.
