MacBook or Windows laptop?

I consider myself a newbie at all this internet marketing stuff....just recently (about 5 months ago) did I really start to read and get into it. I want to buy a new laptop and see that a lot of people have MacBooks in the industry. Is there a specific reason for this? Are they more user friendly than Windows in a particular way? I'm good with windows so I'm def not a computer newbie, but just unsure which one to buy.
Thanks

If your comfortable with a windows laptop, stick with it. You will pay a lot less. Macbooks are awesome and in my opinion more user friendly, but they cost a lot more. If cost isn't a factor, I'd go for the Apple product every time, but again that's personal preference based on style and ease of operation, as well as "cool factor". A windows machine will do all the same tasks. Hope that helps.

Macs are pointless regardless of the debate of "which is better"

There are a limited number of software developers that also make mac versions of their software. Macs are 4X the money to buy.

So...do you want to pay $2000 to surf the web...or $450?

As far as Brand's are concerned..the only brand to even consider is Toshiba. They are far and away superior to everything else on the planet.

I'm a PC guy too and also recommend a Toshiba. Their Satellite series has always been great for getting done what I needed done.

I'd suggest be adventurous and get a 15" macbook Pro

Up until 12 months ago I had only ever used Windows machines.

I saw all these "geeky" type people using and raving about macs, but it took me ages to make the plunge - and I love it.

One advantage I like with the Macbook is the 5 hour battery life - I love that I can simply close the lid, and when I open it again it starts up straight away.

I bought mine cheap from ebay as it was a couple of years old, but it is still great.

I use a Windows desktop PC, and a 15" Macbook pro for a laptop - a fantastic combination.

There were once LOTS of reasons to prefer macs. NOW, just as they start catching on, there are far fewer. It is effectively the same hardware, getting similar viruses, and what once only APPLE really did, with music and graphics, is now the norm. Apple still has a slight edge, especially with music as I understand it, but they would suffer the same fate as SUN if not for the diversification. You see, SUN was where APPLE was! SUN ****ALSO**** decided to move all stuff to the IBM platform. Their revenue PLUMMETED! NOT because the IBM platform is BAD, but because it allowed others to use competitor hardware, and denied them the ability to say that their hardware had a definite benefit.

You know.... I recently had an argument with a person. I said that apple used to be open, and IBM was nowhere near it. INCREDIBLY, he disputed that!!!!!!!

Apple was perhaps the first major computer company, and CERTAINLY the first that is still around, to have a 100% OPEN platform! They published secret vectors, gave full assembly listings of the kernel and basic OS, published the buss, and ENCOURAGED mods!

IMAGINE! COMPLETE schematics! Have you seen them with ANY major computer since? NOPE! COMPLETE assembly listings! Have you seen THOSE? NOPE! Hardware modification vectors and full details! Have you seen THOSE? NOPE!

    Did DEC do that? ****NEVER****!
Did IBM do that? ONLY with the PC and THEN about a DECADE after it came out after the competition FORCED it! Compaq went to a LOT of trouble and expense to break the protection IBM had in their ROM. It was the ONLY piece they couldn't practically COPY!

I watched a discussion with people at compaq once. They had THREE TEAMS! ONE was technical people that checked vectors and other details, and they were not allowed to look at certain materials, or talk to the developers. They spoke ONLY with lawyers who then spoke with developers, who were not allowed to look at various details. The idea was to develop a compatible ROM that could not be called a copy but worked like the original. It not only had to work alike, but trick commercial software into thinking it was the same.

Of course, the lisa(effectively the first mac, but it was named after steven jobs daughter), and all computers after it, that Apple created were FAR more closed.

IBM lost control of their PC computer even BEFORE they opened up, so they don't have to say anything.

Let's see, my windoozzzze laptop takes a minute or so to wake up from sleep mode, has 2 hours battery time, crappy screen compared to my macbook pro, windooozzzze is unstable so I have to boot it every now and then, I can't put it to sleep overnight because it tends to hang if I have many applications running at the same time so I have to restart it anyway.

My Macbook Pro 13" on the other hand takes 4 seconds to wake up from sleep mode, has 7 hours battery time, it can go a month or so between every time I boot it or restart it, and I use it for hours every day, have garageband, imovie, and iphoto installed from the factory, a complete software package comparable to MS Office costs a fraction for the Mac, is far easier to use than office, and the design is far better then anything else containing a prosessor.....

Hmm, for gaming, or stuff where you MUST have Windows, Buy Windows puter
For anything else buy a Mac.

That's slow compared to Windows 7. I'm typing in less than a second. I did post about that earlier, but it seems people read the topic title and then hit the reply button. I do have a SSD or flash HD, not sure if that helps the speed.

So basically you compared a new Mac to an old Windows machine but maybe you didn't realize that they are improving quickly too.

The 7 hour battery life you mentioned is good and probably beats most windows machines, at least mine, by a long way. It might be one of the good reasons to get a Mac, or an extra battery. Personally I'll go with an extra battery.

Which software package is that? Btw, MS is the largest supplier of Mac software. At least when I checked a few years ago, the Mac version of Office was more expensive than the Windows version.

I do have Office, but do most of my text and code in Notepad++. (free) One person who does have a Mac now said that the biggest disappointment was that NP++ didn't have a mac version, and there wasn't anything as good he could use on his mac.

One thing that gets me is that you only get 90 days of free telephone support with a Mac. For the price of them I would have expected a lot more. Any Windows manufacturer gives you a year. If you want more than 90 days on a Mac you have to pay big bucks.

The first mistake is lumping all PC's into one generalization. The quality and performance of some brands is consistently in the toilet, while others are consistently near Godlike perfection.

So...when saying " a windows machine" ....you have to pinpoint which specific machine.

I would suggest dealing with Toshiba and nothing else. Toshiba's are superior to everythig else by leaps and bounds.

As far as people talking about poor windows performance...the only thing I can say is...you don't know what you are doing. Its your fault, not windows. You can adjust and eliminate settings to significantly increase performance and decrease problems.

There is nothing wrong with owning a Mac...but they are simply pointless. They are triple the price and have a fraction of the software avalability of the PC/Windows platform.

You can run windows on a Mac...but then ...you might as well have just bought a Toshiba

Yep, l have to agree with that one, after tons of research online l got a Toshiba, Satellite, i3-320 Gig, 2 gig of ram, (l think) and 64 meg graphics card.

I also have a Pc with 4 gig ram, 180 gig hard drive, with a Pentium 4 chip.

The Laptop runs at about 30% faster than the PC, at startup, and l can push the Laptop to 8 gigs if l want. And most of the 320 has been used, downloadable movies take a lot of memory, 700 meg average, but it can go to 1.5 gigs.

As for which one is better, for starters my Laptop has vioce recognition, which compared to Apple is probably crap. As far as l can tell you can say anything to an Apple computer and it will get it, do the same to a PC, and it will get it wrong 50 to 70% of the time.

I had to disable mine because every time l made a sound or typed something it would occasionally misinterpreted it and go on a rampage and delete things l didn't want it to delete!

Battery life is another biggie, on average after about a year of use, l get about 1.5 hours of use, but l do use a cordless mouse!

Apple uses a refrigerant type cooling system instead of fans, so the battery's go further, but...

if you buy a PC with solid state memory, it can get over this, although l think that 180 gigs is the limit for this at present.

A PC also uses IE for websurfing, which is a crappy browser, but you can easily install Firefox, which is generally a very good browser.

I also have to admit that Apple computers look cool, but when l had to get a Laptop spending at least $1,500 for a A-Laptop which had considerably less harddisk storage, and seemed to be the same for speed, l went for the PC, Windows 7 Laptop instead for $600, ($500 now) in AU.

I will probably get a Apple one day, but not presently.

      Good luck.
