A question about honey

Well, it is soon going to be Hurricane Season again, so I am starting my preparation for food and supplies for my kit.

I have a question about honey and how long it stores.

I have heard it will keep forever, basically, but I noticed when looking at plastic vs. jars that the plastic honey containers had an expiration date and the glass jars didn't.

Am I correct in assuming that it isn't the honey that has the expiration date but that the container it is being stored in that has the expiration date?

Put another way - the plastic deteriorates over time, but the glass jars don't?

Help!

      Thank you!

Since Hurricane Season lasts from June to November, I want to make sure anything I put in my supplies will last until the end of the season, KWIM?

I don't know about forever, Shay - but it can last one heck of a long time. It sometimes turn to sugar after awhile, but can be heated to melt it. Plastic has toxins in it that leeches into things after awhile so maybe that is why it keeps better in glass.

Here's another reason to keep honey --- it can be put on wounds to keep bacteria from growing on them. That's why honey lasts so long is that bacteria doesn't grow in honey. It's good emergency food supply but also good first aid emergency supply.

Glass containers, Sweetie, and Sal is right. If it starts to crystallize just warm it up.

OMG, I just realized that it was the second time I've agreed with Sal this week.

It'll be okay Thomas - there's still a lot of topics yet to cover that we can be sure
to clash on. Just know this - tinfoil is sooooo 90's - electro-static bags are what's
      in now.

The "natural" stuff would last longer than the pasteurized and filtered.
Propolis and Royal Jelly I've read kills bad buddies.See, I too can agree with HeySal!
I wish I could use it on cuts and such but, I had a severe allergic response to that.
I tried it ONCE and it was NOT pretty, serious, as I used it on my face.

Plastic will leach into the honey putting the flavor off. My opinion
is it's best to use wide-mouth jars so if it gets hard you can dig it
out easily. Plastic is more awkward to heat up in a pan of hot water
or whatever because you don't want it to melt, so glass is a good
    choice for long-term storage.

I figured that this was the case.

It gets really hot here, so I believe glass jars are better for storage.

      Thank you!
