Ever seen the Subaru commercial with the Dad talking to the little blond girl in the driver's seat? That's his real daughter. The older girl is her sister.

  • Oh, you mean the one where the 'cute' little girl morphs into the 'cuter' little girl?

I always wondered if there was some significance in the red stripe shirt changed to a blue stripe shirt...

Maybe I'm reading too much into it - maybe it's just bad continuity...

GEE, I always thought it was OBVIOUS!!!!! MOST kids get a feeling like... and many adults actually DO.... that the adults are talking DOWN to them like they are REAL little kids.

So the dad is talking to a girl in the car. The girl is ACTUALLY in her later teens. HE sees her as "his little girl", and as almost a BABY. In REALITY, and she sees it as, she is in her later teens. This may well be showing her first solo ride in a car. He wants to make sure she does EVERYTHING she can to be safe.

So others understand, in the US driving is drivers licenses/permits are controlled by circumstance, community, and state. MOST people only experience the state type of license. MOST states, as far as I know, work like this...

      1. At a certain age, often around 15, a child can apply for a provisionary license, often called a learners permit. Basically, it tells he world that they SHOULD be OK, and the state will let them drive as long as a licensed adult is in the car with them at all times.

      2. At another age, often older, the child can apply for and get a REAL license, and they then can go on their own. There may be SOME limitations until the reach a certain age or something, but basically they can drive just fine.

A lot of kids, when they get their REAL license, aren't too shy about going out for a drive alone.

Of course, some small communities might let younger kids drive, and military, farm, etc... people may drive without a license, or when they would otherwise be too young.

As for the shirt? Who knows? I DOUBT it meant anything.

It's a CUTE commercial though. A love where the little girl is there, can't touch the pedals, just heard her fathers requests and says "DADDY...? OKAYYYYYYYY!"

I'm surprised so few seem to understand it.
