World News - German police fired just 85 bullets total in 2011

Meanwhile, in the United States, The Atlantic reported that in April, 84 shots were fired at one murder suspect in Harlem, and another 90 at an unarmed man in Los Angeles.

Well, I get the idea that the germans still try to be understated and thrifty, as well as reasonable. They probably hire based on some absolute metric of ability. The US tries to be all inclusive with little regard to ability. ALSO, the entire country is TINY compared to the US. So comparing them to the US IS a bit much. STILL, compared to California, let's say, germany is STILL using FAR less bullets!

But you can bet that the German police probably MEAN BUSINESS, compared to the US forces. I mean you let a GUILTY ILLEGAL ALIEN off because he CLAIMS he CAN'T UNDERSTAND his options in interaction with the police? GIVE ME A BREAK! LATER, even CITIZENS have gotten off because of claimed defects in those warnings!

I recently saw a comparison that the US, for example, spent FAR more on the military than 16 other countries. The fact is that the other countries are generally smaller and AGAIN, understated. One example, for example, was GERMANY. Germany is NOT ALLOWED to have a really strong army, after the 2nd world war. In any event, they are smaller, and surrounded by countries that are ALSO paying, and are allies. ALSO, being isolated, the US is more likely to be attacked by bigger weapons from far off countries.

What I meant was that a country like china could easily send a powerful nuclear bomb into say kansas and hurt lot of the US without bothering others much. Using even a low powered weapon in germany would affect far more countries, and get more international action, including from the US.

  • Is it that the other countries have less access to high tech weaponry? - Or is it that the weaponry accessible in the United States makes police forces more inclined to shoot first and ask questions later?

Why are some other forces able to resolve critical situations through negotiation or by non-lethal methods?

Is it a matter of perception - or paranoia?

Germany has access to virtually EVERYTHING that the US does! They are a LEADER in nuclear power, have jets just like the us, etc... HECK, they had jets in WWII! Granted, it was LATE WWII, but STILL... So NOPE, it isn't for lack of ability.

I know what you meant..........but there are some pretty nasty WMD that can come right across that border........I was saying that we aren't all that isolated. The Canadian border is taken with a tad of seriousness - but the southern border is wide open game.

China can send a massive nuke over here..............but there's enough stuff coming over the south border to do massive damage in every major city of the country.

Anyone ever stop and wonder what the 400 mil rounds of ammo the DHS just bought is for? 400 mil rounds.

It wasn't anything specifically directed at any comment, it was a general question, but I agree the southern border is a definite area of concern - especially when criminal activity is so brazen that, as in today - they find 49 decapitated bodies lying aside the highway near the border - that, to me, is definite reason for concern...that kind of criminal statement could (and should) be considered an act of war - no less threatening than any other act of terrorism that is subject to military action - Mexico is in embroiled in a drug war, they don't seem to be capable of stopping. Do we need to ask NATO to intervene in a drug war?
Mexico certainly is not the poor country that many people in the US are under the impression they are. They could fix this - I get the general impression they are sitting on their thumbs for some reason... (jmo)

MMM - I was responding to what Steve said. LOL.

Our police have been stocked with militia trained by Blackwater. They are not normal cops - they could care less about rights, and police procedure. They are military. They are so military they are almost robotic. Blackwater cops scare me crapless.

      oops!...never mind....

      * I also should have added above, that if this is purely gang killing gang - fine, give them a big gladitorial stadium and let them kill each other all they want - just keep civilians out of it...

I'm guessing that the rate of violent crime in Germany is much less.
Also i'm sure far less policemen died while on duty compared to USA.

It's probably to stop the civil war that is going to probably take place soon - when the treaty is signed with the UN and they think they are going to take our guns and be lead by the UN instead of a sovereign congress. Nuts to that.

Yep, because the "sovereign congress" has done such a top notch job on behalf of the American people.

Instead of a "revolution" maybe one day all the cops will say "f**k it, and all go home
and let all the cop bashers fend for themselves. The day the Blue Line vanished may
    be just around the corner.

Good luck negotiating with the Crips, Bloods, Ganster Deciples, MS-13, Child molesters, Skinheads, the New Black Panters, Asian, Russian, Mexican Mofia, auto

We have guns, dude. If we were allowed to handle these violent twerps by ourselves, they wouldn't be around. The best way to deter violence like that - which is usually perpetrated by cowards, bullies, and their followers, is for them to know that they AREN'T safe to terrorize anyone without becoming targets themselves.

As far as the "blue" going home -- if that "blue" was trained by Blackwater, I wish they would.

A radio talk show had the county sheriff on one day. I called in and asked why, instead of the crisp, clean uniforms we all learned to trust in when we were kids, the current deputies looked like they'd just come home from a war in the middle east - combat boots, combat pants, black face masks, H&K's.

      I got cut off.

I would suggest that Law Enforcement knows bad guys better then the average person.
It won't be long before your going to see headless bodies hanging from you local
bridges, and Judges, Mayors, and reporters getting gunned down in broad daylight.

Who do you think can stand up against the Seta type para-military gangs as they
invade America. Fact is, they are here already, and kidnapping and killing people.

How many people have you killed Sal? How are you at kicking down doors, and using
AK's and putting headless bodies in black bags.

Quit bad-mouthing the people who know how to protect America, and have the balls to
shoot it out with psychopaths. It's cops who will confront them while your sitting home.

America is under attack from several fronts, so get real, and support the good guys.
