$12000 a month - firstly let me know exactly what you have done to get to that on two years and I can help you out right away haha.

Seriously - no need to take advice - monetise it now!

I don't want to as such release what I've done where I'm at right now as I don't want to compromise anything but I started with a small group of specific members, e.g a city and I've opened up slowly to different regions. I was advised not to monetize it yet and wait until I hit X amount of numbers that could potentially bring me 50-100$K a month and obviously grow and grow.

Because I could monetize is substantially more - well was a recommendation from a VC that I could be doubling trebling my revenue.

      Or halving,or thirding it.

Take a lesson from MySpace. Once that was the most popular website in the world. Then it was bought by someone who wanted to monetize it.

They paid $580 million for MySpace in 2005, and sold it in 2011 for $35 million.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I don't get it, you received advice from professionals ie:
financial analytics (analysts) and venture capatilists (capitalists) why not follow their advice on how/when to monotize (monetize)your site?

    Fixed that ^^^ for you.
Sorry kid i don't buy your story...
