Thanks Betty for everything - especially the laughs.

Born way back on January 17, 1922 in the land of Lincoln, I didn't know she was on the Mary Tyler Moore show.

  • You never saw Sue Ann Nivins?
She remade Betty a star -again...she was hot for 'Lou' before she was 'hot for Cleveland'

Hey don't be scaring me like that! With the rash of celebrity deaths I thought something had happened to her. Whew!

Wait... you were just paying homage right? You don't know something about her health that I don't know do you?

Ok Great. On that note this is a great thread!
We should celebrate our favorite stars while they're still alive more so than we tweet about how sad we are when they pass.

    • Funny, she has been in show business since 1939, and old enough to vote since 1940 - but she has never endorsed a candidate until a few days ago...(and as fond as she is of dogs)

The actress Betty White is endorsing President Obama for reelection, the AP reports.

White told the AP that she “very, very much favors” Obama, saying that she likes what he has done and “how he represents us.”

The 90-year old actress, in the midst of a late-career renaissance, told the AP that she has generally avoided partisan politics for most of her life and has never backed a candidate for fear of alienating her fans.

I think at 90 you don't care what people (fans) think of you anymore. It must be liberating to speak your mind without fear of reprisal. A luxury most don't have.

        Here's a good question...

Why do the vast majority of Hollywood types normally endorse a dem for POTUS?

Hey Paul, remember the amoeba thread I started a year or so ago? You're right.

Holy cow - I thought this was a send off post, too. DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!!

I LOVE Betty White. It's not age that makes her outspoken - she's always been just fine and dandy with telling us exactly what she thinks.

As far as comedians go, she's never in the list when people cite their fav's -- but, I've never heard of her actually being in stand-up either. She's up there with the best, though. I love her wit. Love to watch her on talk shows. The woman is hilarious.

Betty - don't even think of leaving us for awhile - you ROCK.

I love her too. She was great in the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Did you guys see her host SNL? She's a hoot.

Isn't she on a sitcom with Valerie Bertinelli? Seems I recall Betty talking about the show and how Valerie was such a pleasure to work with.

  • Triva: Did you know that America's Cutest Golden Girl used to be America's Cutest Pin-Up Girl?

Betty also was a model and took a few of her own "Marilynesque" pin-up photos in the '40s and '50s...was Betty White vying to be the next Betty Page?

I actually remembered her first from What's My Line and To Tell The Truth.,and I've got a Secret.
"Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, White appeared on a number of late night talkshows and daytime game shows, including Password.[2] White made many appearances on the hit game show Password as a celebrity guest from 1961 through 1975. She married the show's host, Allen Ludden, in 1963.[2] She subsequently appeared on the show's three updated versions Password Plus, Super Password, and Million Dollar Password, having been on versions of the game with five different hosts (Allen Ludden, Bill Cullen, Tom Kennedy, Bert Convy, and Regis Philbin). White made frequent game show appearances on What's My Line? (starting in 1955), To Tell the Truth (in 1961 and in 1990), I've Got a Secret (in 1972–73), Match Game (1973–1982) and Pyramid (starting in 1982). Both Password and Pyramid were created by White's friend, Bob Stewart. In 1983, she became the first woman to win a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Game Show Host, for the NBC entry Just Men!. Due to the amount of work she has done on them, she has been deemed the "First Lady of Game Shows".[17]"
