Anyone Else Like to Draw or Paint?

Hi guys,

I've actually never posted in the Off Topic Forum before. When I was younger I had wanted to be an artist but it's rather difficult to make any money with it so now I just keep it as a hobby. I have fun doing it but what I really enjoy is the problem solving aspect of it. If I can't draw something I need to research it, find out what's wrong and then figure out a solution.

I was wondering if anyone else likes to draw, paint or sculpt. Please feel free to share some of your work if you'd like. I'm just going to post a couple of things.

The above drawing sort of goes with the next one

And here is something a bit more fun:

And here is a little something in color (digital painting):

I'd love to see the work of some other Warriors. We talk about marketing all the time. Sometimes we need to relax an talk about some of the other things we enjoy.

Thanks for taking a look!

I love to draw, but nothing like that. I prefer using DrawSomething to get my artistic side out...

      Nice work Shadowflux!

I'm not an artist by any means, but my son is rather good at drawings as well. The work I'm about to show you was from way back in high school, but I don't have any recent ones available for posting.

      Here's his self portrait,

And one that is sort of architectural.

I've just took up acrylic painting today!!

I bought the stuff below. I'm going to be reading through the book before I sacrifice one of the 10 canvases in the pad!

I've been painting and drawing all my life. I mostly do abstracts these days but also do figurative stuff. Here's an old one and a couple new portraits:

I did this one of Jim Croce for a friend of mine when I was 16.

Here's a few pencil drawings I did of a friend a few months ago:

Wow! Great work everyone, I knew there was some hidden artistic talent on these boards!

            Tangcontent:

Drawsomething is great. It's nice to have a drawing game that people actually want to play with me. Most people hate playing Pictionary with me

            MissTerraK:

Thanks for the kind words. Your son did a great job on those. I hope he keeps it up!

            Daniel Evans:

Acrylics are a great medium to work in. They dry so much faster than oils so you can get a lot more painting done.

If I can offer a tip I'd say don't be afraid to use a healthy dose of artist's medium to thin out the paint and make washes. As you get closer to the end of the painting try to use lighter and lighter washes. I like to work from light to dark and then add the deepest highlights and colors at the end.

            TimPhelan:

Nice work! I like the tonal values and the lighting on the painting is very natural. Do you use pencils or charcoal?

I actually haven't done much artwork for a few months. The last bit of painting I did was on an M41 tank model I put together. (since I started the thread I'll say it counts lol) Here's a picture:

I also painted these figures and sculpted and painted the base:

            The figures are super tiny!

              Wow Tim!

I'm impressed! Those are fantastic! Who knew?

My artistic abilities lie only in written word like stories, poetry and well just writing.

Oh and interior decorating. I love taking blank rooms and finding the furniture, throw pillows, carpeting or throw rugs, drapes, lamps, wall hangings and other pieces to create a room of artistic beauty. People call me crazy but each room in our house has a theme, yes, even the three bathrooms, lol!

But I wish I could draw like you all do!

Those are great, Terra. I can definitely see that he's improving while maintaining a consistent style. I'm sure he will do quite well after he graduates!

Wow, what a pleasure this thread is!

                    There's some real talent, there.

In spite of that, I'll offer one of my "postmondrianist" ones: this is acrylic on canvas, supposed to be in the style of Mondrian (but very different colors, as you see!) and about 40" high ...

                      Haha Alexa,

                      You do have talent!

When Brandon saw it, he said nice work!

I didn't even know what Mondrian Style was, until he explained it to me. He recognized the style right away.

Here's a few of my abstracts:

These are two separate ones from last year that I have side by side. Each is about 7' tall and 2' wide.

Another from last year that's about 24"x40"

Another from last year about 2'x3':

A thread like this has to come along just when I've already run out of "thanks" for the day, for forum posts.

There's a touch of the "Miro" style about yours, Tim? ... I like your two from last year, very much.

Thanks Alexa. Yes, Miro is one of my favorites. I used to own a Miro lithograph and also a Picasso, who is my favorite visual artist of all time. Very perceptive of you.

I see even more great work!

Alexa and Tim, your abstracts are fantastic. I must admit, I've never done much by way of abstract work, I've mostly tried to be as realistic as possible. I think it's because of the problem solving I mentioned in the OP. You guys have inspired me to give it a shot, however, and maybe I can come up with some good abstract work.

Kim, those are great, your friend is very talented!

Everyone else: Thanks for all of the kind words! It doesn't matter how "good" your art is, the only thing that matters is that you enjoy it. I'm definitely my own worst critic and I think that most of what I do is not very good.

I have a feeling that I will be doing a bit more artwork in the coming months as my wife and I are moving into a new apartment which just happens to be directly across the street from the art museum!

I'd like to post more of my work but most of what I have on the computer are figure studies and I don't think the mods would enjoy having me post pictures of naked people lol

Edit: Here is some stuff from a few years ago, these were done on the computer, mostly Photoshop and Illustrator

        A little Art Deco

        A viking ship
