Is there a way to do this? It could save a life

A friend's wife has been diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.

She is a few years older than he, but at age 62, she already is having trouble remembering things she does. In fact, she was let go from her job two weeks ago because of something she knows she did, but can't even remember all of the particulars.

Years ago my mother developed Alzheimer's Disease, and she used to leave the house to wonder the neibhborhood. Dad would call me to help. He and I would then drive the neighborhood trying to "rescue" her. We would always find her sitting on someone's porch steps, exhausted, and frightened because she had no clue where she was or how to get home.

My father-in-law also developed the disease, and before we realized what was happening, he would get into his automobile and go wander half the state of Ohio!

My friend realizes his wife will eventually get to that same point, and begin wandering. It is part of the pattern in dementia patients.

Smartphones have GPS capability. His wife carries an iPhone.

Is there a way for him to track the co-ordinates of where she is, when she wanders off?

An app perhaphs that let him track her iPhone?

Thanks

:-Don

    Don,
I don't know if there is, but its a good idea.
Maybe an iphone to iphone tracker app?
I don't know anything about developing apps but if I did I'd be on it.

    Here's an iphone tracker:

Apple - iPhone 4S - Locate your missing iPhone with Find My iPhone.

    Here's another one:

    And another one:

It appears there are several options. I've never used one, so I can't recommend any specific one.

There are also other options outside of iPhone apps:

This article lists several Alzheimer patient locating services. It could be very helpful:

Don if it's still early have her try eating 2 to 3 tablespoons of raw or unfiltered coconut oil every day. Here's a couple of links about it.

My brother died from A.D. so it has been a serious concern for me.
I've been eating coconut oil for a few months now and can see a difference in my mental capacities, not to mention my energy levels have improved as has my blood circulation.

I'm being a little lazy here because I've got several fires going at once, so I'll read later. However, is there benefit at starting such a regiment early, say mid-thirties?

There are a butt load of benefits derived from coconut oil.
I wish I had known about coconut oil (and ACV) when I was in my teens. I would of started eating it then.
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

There are privacy and other concerns about implanted tracking devices for A.D. patients but other products are beginning to appear. I still think a simple gps implant that emits a signal could save lives but....

GPS shoes for Alzheimer's patients coming to market

GPS bracelet for people with autism or Alzheimer’s | mobihealthnews

Seems to me if you used a tracking bracelet or a chip on a necklace - it would need to be an item the A.D. patient could not remove and discard.
