Hey

I'm looking for a reseller package, so far I've looked at bluehost and hostgator packages. Searched around for reviews about bluehost reseller package and most people said to stay away from bluehost. Seems like people are very happy with hostgator shared hosting, but how is their reseller packages. If you have any experience with reseller hosting or know about a reliable reseller package, please help me out.

Thanks

I use two hostgator reseller accounts and have been very satisfied with them.

It depends on what specifications you're looking for. HostGator is a great company, but there are others out there who have more to offer you.

The one thing you'll run into with a HG reseller account is that you're limited by resources "allocated", not used. If you have a 25GB account, create 25 accounts with 1GB limits, but they never come close to using their space, you will hit your cap.

But you can control those limits yourself. I don't use a reseller to resell hosting - just to host multiple domains.

You're correct, you can control them. Here's the things you should be looking for:

        RAID 10 Storage
LiteSpeed - forget Apache, LiteSpeed is far more superior.
        CloudFlare
        Backups
        Software installers
Extras like: Sitebuilders, form builders, etc
        A security conscious company
        Upgrade paths
A company that treats you like a customer, not just another account.

        I can go on...

HostGator reseller accounts have a pretty good reputation. At one point they considered themselves the largest reseller host, and I think they still do. I've read a lot of good reviews about their reseller hosting. If you go with HG I've got a resller coupon listed at HostGatorHub.com.

HostGator doesn't let you oversell the reseller packages, so depending on what you're doing that may be a problem. As far as I'm concerned, that limit is a good thing because otherwise a lot of resellers' clients would get angry.

The LiteSpeed thing that KingFish brought up is an interesting question. I think the benefits of LiteSpeed are overstated though they may exist. I'm not an expert, but I've read things from smarter people than I who doubt the advantages of LiteSpeed compared to intelligent alternative server setups.

You brought up BlueHost, the reviews on them are a mixed bag. I think you'd probably be ok if you hosted with them, but I'd go for another company.

Mods - Can you please remove my signature form these posts before it looks like I'm advertising.

Chr - LiteSpeed is FAR more superior than Apache. The benefits of LiteSpeed are not overstated... you do realize there are additional fee's to license each server with LiteSpeed don't you? If there weren't major performance increases by using it, do you honestly think I and tons of other hosts would pay extra to use it? No.

This isn't the first thread you have bashed the advice I have given. When you use and maintain a few thousand websites, lots of servers and such in both environments, then I feel you can comment on whether it's "overstated".

EDIT: It's also against the rules to post affiliate links in the forum.

I use four different hosts. Bluehost is one of them. I've been with them about 8-9 years and host more sites with them than any other host. Obviously I've been happy with them to stay that long and trust them with over 50% of my sites.

You have to take the complaints you see with a grain of salt. Many of them are from people who got booted for violating the TOS and want revenge.

BlueHost recently launched their reseller hosting in October of 2011. I'm not sure how many clients they have using their reseller hosting, but it's probably less the 1% of their clients. I haven't found too many customer reviews on their reseller hosting only their regular shared hosting.

    Kingfish,
If someone has a different opinion than yours it is ok for them to state it. He did not personally attack you, he just disagreed with you. You cannot be thin skinned on a forum.

I've never even heard of Litespeed,so I can't argue for or against.

Good of you to ask the Mods to remove your sig,the first time I read this thread I did think you were going after business.

I have used probably close to a dozen hosting companies over the years, almost all have had their good and bad points.
I currently use Hostgator with a resellers account.

As far as Litespeed vs Apache,as I said,I've never even heard of it till this thread so I can't argue for or against. But I can say that just because you are willing to pay extra for it,that doesn't make it better. And it could be that the features that does make it better the average person may not need. I'd love to drive a Masurati, but a Hyundai will do the job I actually need.

I'm not arguing for or against either side, just saying decisions should be based on actual need, not features that you may or may not ever use.

No problem, I didn't actually take it as an attack or get upset about it. My thing is, having experience with both of these products and personally knowing the LiteSpeed blows Apache out of the water. You shouldn't comment on something - "I've read things from smarter people", so basically saying someone else said this or that but not actually knowing which one performs better, handles more requests, uses less server resources etc. I know from experience, not he said she said.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but I have been in the IT & web hosting Industry for going on 10 years and I do know a little of what I'm talking about.

At the end of the day, I was simply trying to point out things that people should be looking for, not push customers to our company as a lot of people think. I have recommended HostGator many of times. In most cases people seem to comment on things they have no idea about just because they heard someone else say this. Prime example is telling someone to buy a VPS because their Wordpress site uses too much memory - that's not a solution, fix the script problem and don't put a band-aid on it.

There's a lot of monkey-see monkey-do. Sure, HostGator is a great web host, but believe me there are far better out there. Half of their environments are way overloaded and running on deprecated Planet/Softlayer hardware.

I've actually considered switching from Hostgator, but then I think of the work involved in moving 26 sites and end up staying where I am.
And I'm a small fry, I know many people that have a lot more than 26.

Since HG is cPanel, it's actually fairly smooth. We do cPanel x-fers and A LOT of non-cPanel transfers and it's tedious. If you decide to move, your next host should move them for you, and 26 sites is fairly small.

We have done x-fers of 100+ sites and usually do it in phases to minimize downtime. This of course is included with our services depending on how much data is being moved.
