Getting excited.

Most people in here know I have a rock and gem website. In a few weeks I'll be having a meet-up with several of my members - from OR, TX, CA. We'll be having a major feast (or several) and doing some rock hunting, and some are bringing rock saws so I will get some of my stuff cut.

Taking a box of some of my finds from around the country as gifts.

Because you just never know what you have til it's cut, those that cut a rock for me will get half for themselves - and I have some notoriously good stuff.

Anyhow -- online is kewl - but when you can mix your favorite thing in the whole world with online, and meet other people that share your fever for it, life really takes on a whole new dimension. I can walk into any state in the US and not only do business in my niche because of my site -- but can also depend on a rockhound or two in the state to tour me out to where the good stuff is there.

Sometimes I just love this crap.

    Cool Sal!

I'm excited for you. That rocks!

    Haha, no pun intended.

Anyway, take some pictures of your cut gems, I so wanna see them.

Hey it just keeps getting better. Found out an old high school pal I was close with lives about 100 miles from me, so she's going to drive over and we're going out together.

I'll be posting the cuts on my Gazette - sure will drop a link to it. I am thinking this pow-wow will draw a lot of new members. The site is just now picking up to where it was when it got hacked and the php got ripped to shreds. Almost didn't rebuild it.

I'm sure it will be the new best time ever, Dennis. At least til next time I have the best time ever. I am quite diligent about keeping those a normal part of life.

  • I'm not sure how they are viewed in the Rock set, but I always thought one of the neatest to find would be the Thundereggs - cause like a pearl, you probably never know what you're going to get til ya open 'er up!

Thundereggs and geodes are fun -- but actually agates can be quite a mystery until cut, too. Check this out.

This is the outside of a few agates I picked up out by the OR/ID border. Even a lot of rockhounds would be stunned that I would bother to bring something like these home.

But then you get your pal with the rock saw to slice them up for you and here is what you end up with:

Most stuff just doesn't look the same out there as it does after you get it home and work with it. You have to really train your eye for some stuff. Even then - as you can see by the outside/inside pics here - sometimes you just never know til you cut it open what you have.

What really sucks is having a box of what you already KNOW are going to be award winning agates, and you don't have a saw and have to wait til you can find someone to cut them. It's like having a Christmas tree with all sorts of presents under it and not being able to touch them.

Best of luck buddy, bearing in mind a fact, I've got no particularly knowledge about gems but yes, I adore it a lot.
