US taxpayer money went into training the gentlemen behind that operation:
Finding Oscar: Massacre, Memory and Justice in Guatemala - ProPublica

"Dos Erres was one of more than 600 mass killings during the war. The pattern recurred across the map: Women raped, children slaughtered, entire villages erased. "

This is where they learned how to carry out such procedures:
School of the Americas (Its identity is now disguised as, "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation") This fine institute is also where much of Latin America's drug Mafia leaders received their training. Was that a good way to invest US citizens' hard-earned tax dollars?

Yes, it's a sad and tragic story.

Maybe you can enlighten us with some more investigative work on the actions and tactics during that time period of the USSR, through its satellite Cuba, in support of leftist and communist organizations active then and now in Central America?

Your implication that the SOA instructed and trained Central American military leaders on how to carry out atrocities like the one in the story is disingenuous and patently false.

I wish it was "patently false". I'll have to look up "disingenuous". Believe what you want. It is still true and extensively documented.

    Update: I looked up disingenuous.

    dis·in·gen·u·ous
    Adjective:
Not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does.

You're wrong. I was stating well-documented facts about the US taxpayer funded School of the Americas. I was not being disingenuous. I won't speculate on your motivations behind your accusation against me and your defense of the School of the Americas, but you are wrong. Saying that training and funding death squads was necessary to fight the USSR's spread is like saying Charles Manson and his gang needed to be subsidized to stop the spread of Communism in California.

TB -- yeah it happened. Is it right to rub that in during our Memorial holiday, though? If you've noticed, this country is in a LOT of turmoil right now, and the amount of America bashing by outsiders that is going on is pretty hard to take. Do we think that was a good way to spend tax dollars? WTF do you THINK we think about it.

He wasn't calling you a liar -- he was calling this thread instigating.

I didn't realize that it was Memorial holiday now in the US. Sorry about the timing. The timing has to do with the fact that I'd just read the story. I lived in Latin America, so the situation personally means more to me, I don't believe that such actions represent what the US stands for at all, but only that of extremist rogue elements within the US. I wasn't "America bashing" at all. The total opposite. America is about democracy, human rights, free enterprise and freedom of expression, not death squads that throw babies down wells and cut pregnant women open.
