Is 'America's Got Talent' Breakout Star Tim Poe a Fraud?

NBC's summer talent show "America's Got Talent" looked like it had found a new star this week in country singer Tim Poe, who came to the stage with a heart-tugging story: He's an Afghanistan war veteran who was injured by a rocket-propelled grenade, suffering brain damage and developing a stutter that he can only suppress while singing. But his tale might be too good to be true. Reports are now surfacing that Poe may have fabricated the whole story.

I've read several threads on other forums telling how the whole show is a fraud. Sad but true.

Don't need to care, just responding to the OP,who asked the question if one of the contestants could be a fraud. The answer is yes.

By the way, these are reports by people that have actually been on the show.

Yeah, I guess there's something to be said about exposing a fraud, no matter what the venue.
My apologies to the OP for my disrespect.

Well, I think my original intent was not just to relay a story about exposing a fraud - that happens more than we would like anyway...

The intent of this OP was to expose a fraud claiming to be a WAR HERO (who claims to be disabled and stutters, as if that does not add insult to injury in the purest sense) to garner sympathy in hopes of winning a contest, which to me, is a shameless slap in the face to anyone who ever really deserved a medal for heroism...not to forget the real disabled veterans and the people afflicted with stuttering...
it's all just unconscionable to me someone could be that stupid to think they could get away with that, with that kind of national exposure, not to mention the nerve...

If he really did (still alleged) do this...drum him out of the contest? Heck, he'll be lucky if they don't drum him out of the country! I would be interested to see how someone apologizes their way out of this...

And just to toss my 2 cents in again wehre it doesn't belong, I think I was just voicing my continued disdain for these "reality" shows that are faked.
I actually thought this show was real for several seasons.

It is certainly a despicable lie. It wouldn't be at all surprising if strategic and unscrupulous contestants composed a fictional script about themselves to garner sympathy, add drama, and be noticed.

The sad reality is that a lot of people in less public situations compose scripts about themselves to gain advantage, painting themselves to be simultaneously heroic and tragic. It is important be able to back something up before believing someone solely on the basis of their word or stuff published on the Internet, since someone could use multiple User IDs to post stuff about oneself.

I'm recording the shows and watching them without the commercials.

Whether fake or real, the show is providing my visiting mother-inlaw and me with lots and lots of hearty laughs.

  • 'America's Got Talent' Contestant Timothy Poe: More Evidence of Military Lies?

The evidence that "America's Got Talent" contestant Timothy Poe failed to tell the truth about his military service continues to mount.

As TMZ reports, a photo of a soldier shown during Poe's audition is not Poe at all, but rather a different soldier altogether (see image below).

This show is a huge waste of time. Spend more time watching the news and by that I don't mean Fox news or CNN. Being informed is much better than being entertained.

Curiously, I don't really watch the show either - whenever I do click over to it to see what sort of 'train-wreck' might be occurring...the judges are just saying "wow! - that was amazing!!", so if there is actually any talent on the show, I always seem to have just missed it...it's mainly these types of controversies involved that intrigue me about this show, and other "reality" programming, and the quest for 'instant stardom'.
