Do you think some people are just born evil?

I think innate evil is rare, like being born with 11 fingers but I do believe that some people are just rotten to the core and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Of course there are those people who are products of abuse, neglect or environment but I'm not talking about those. I mean those true sociopaths.

What do you think? What do you think about this kid who shot his sister?

I think so, too. Some people are just truly evil people. I have known a few.

As have I, but I don't think that people are born evil, although it would seem so at times.

I've seen little toddlers who are evil little beasts and think to myself, man, if this behavior isn't tackled, addressed and corrected, we're going to have a criminal running rampant here.

I'm not talking the typical terrible twos either. I mean their actions are thought out maliciousness and you can just see their evil thoughts play out on their faces before they act.

I think some people are born with bad brain chemistry and 'disconnects' in their neurological systems.

Being evil is mostly something people choose however. We each have the capacity to go either way.

With that said, it does say in the Bible that devils are devils as soon as they are born (in so many words) - so maybe there are some 'demon seeds'.

Then of course environment/abuse, etc can also contribute to 'evil' people being evil. The victim becomes the oppressor unless he/she uses their common sense and have a conscience that is stronger than their impulses.

I know we always thought my niece was evil because she was violent even at 6 months old - (and her father was a prick) - turns out she had epilepsy and these were pre-seizures. Took quite a few years for it to be diagnosed and in the meantime she was kicked out of schools, etc.

So you have to be careful how you judge people...

(with that said if they seriously hurt anybody for whatever reason, they need to be put away or sent out of here). No excuse.

I also believe that some people are born evil. Some stupid people are evil, some highly intelligent people are evil. That boy in the picture was a stupid evil person. Someone such as serial killer Ted Bundy would be an intelligent evil person.

That said, I don't believe that most people are "good". Most people are nebulous and go with the flow and pursue whatever interests them without looking at the bigger picture. If most people were good, a majority of Germans would have opposed Hitler. Hitler was a highly intelligent evil person. Frankly, there is some evil going on today -- suppressed by the mainstream media -- that I won't even mention since it wouldn't help anybody or do me any good and could even bring trouble to me and my family.

Monsanto is an evil entity run by highly intelligent evil people, as are so many of the so-called "health insurance" providers in the US. Highly intelligent people can find ways to exercise their evil nature while not only escaping punishment but getting rewarded for it, eg whoever was responsible for the School of the Americas, school of brutal assassins committing heinous crimes comparable to that committed by Luka Magnotta or Charles Manson and his gang, but on a mass scale.

Nope. All evilness and negative stuff is learned. It is learned behavior. The subconscious mind is a sucker for picking up signals and put together a meaning from it. Not necessarily correct all the time as the learning is based on earlier experiences.

It is just trying to protect us. And some people have very strange ideas about what protection should look like and feel like...

Learning does however begin before we get born though...

I'm pretty sure that they are. Don't know what people do not understand about the word "poison".

Women that slathered themselves with toxic sunscreens and ended up with Vit D deficiencies kid's are paying for that one in many ways - including being called immoral for being born gender confused.

Some people are born with a genetic makeup that
disposes them to become exhibit greater evil than the
      "normal" or "average" person would.
How these sociopaths develop and the traits they
ultimately exhibit depends on their upbringing and their
      life experiences.
A person with a sociopathic makeup or predisposition can
actually become very successful in business or the military
which can allow them to be very goal driven and effective
while wearing the outward mask of a normally functioning
      and caring individual.
However, these individuals who lack empathy to varying
degrees can exhibit very abusive and cruel behaviors if
they are exposed to abusive environments themselves,
      especially when young.

Unfortunately, I feel some MUST be born evil. How else do you explain those that are practically born bullies and spend their whole life harrassing and perhaps trying to rule areas where they do nothing more than make everyone miserable for no reason.

Not to be religious, but people think adam ate of the tree of knowledge. They need to read farther. It was the tree of knowledge OF GOOD AND EVIL. If one had no inate desire, you would figure that they would simply do what they can to survive or be more comfortable. MOST animals seem to always do things that seem bad for a PURPOSE! A bear will attack people for food or fear, for example.

As much as I'd love to discuss this topic in depth, I don't think I can answer that question without crossing into "religious" territory, because the most popular religion in the world basically states that everyone was born evil (and also that everyone has an opportunity to be fully redeemed from that evil).

Interesting topic, but to respect the forum rules, I'll just have to leave it at that.

I think everyone is born with good and evil and most of us manage to keep it in balance.

Upbringing has a lot to do with how these tendencies will play out in life but I've seen bad parents raise good kids and good parents raise bad kids.

One of my good friends had parents from Hell who were abusive and everything. It is a miracle that he turned out ok. He credits turning his life around to randomly finding a self-help book in neighbor's junk as a kid when he was with his parents dumpster-diving (which they did when they weren't outright stealing).

I believe that some people are born 'evil'. I'm not at all certain that they consider themselves to be that way - or that they even know the difference on an emotional level. I think the part of their brain that should know basic humanity is disconnected.

I believe for the most part it's nurture over nature but I think the real psychopath or sociopath as opposed to just someone who is a bit messed up due to circumstance is born fundamentally 'wired' incorrectly and so lacks empathy and compassion.

I also think the people in control of our world today are all born evil psychopaths which is why they can be responsible for the murder and oppression of millions of largely innocent people, yet show no remorse and in fact go about their daily lives in a normal, seemingly happy manner. This, for me, also explains why the 'elite' bloodlines of society have always bred closely in order to keep the lines closed - they simply can't risk having the capability to rule without feeling being undermined with an injection of 'normal' genetic traits, such as empathy...

Psychopaths and sociopaths that are 'wired' incorrectly have a mental illness.

If only they had been fortunate enough to be born with a physical illness they probably would get the proper treatment they need.

Sorry....I have a real soft spot for the mentally ill. I was fortunate to have spent several years working with them so have had a peek into the hell they live in most of the time.

I don't believe anyone is born evil. And....my guess would be that those that act evil, hate themselves more than anyone else could ever hate them.

I think it is fair to point out that most mentally ill people -- the vast majority -- are more likely to be victims of violence than the perpetrators of violence.

Psychopaths, sociopaths, and criminally insane individuals are not usually the same as schizophrenic people in general.

I've had mentally ill friends myself. They were almost all gentle to the extreme of being exceptionally vulnerable.

Not born evil, there is always a choice. A couple of quotes that almost sum up my understanding about this.

You do not wake up one morning a bad person. It happens by a thousand tiny surrenders of self-respect to self-interest. Robert Brault
Some people just start working on it early. It is disturbing to see a kid with an actual evil attitude.

If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
One of my micro jokes about this is when everyone is excited about a cute little baby. "Oh you never know. It could grow up to be Satan's next representative here on earth."

It might not sound funny at all with the incident that started this topic, but usually it gets a great laugh. There is so much beauty to a baby that evil, and things like that just do not seem possible. Yet somehow incidents like that sometimes happen.

I agree with Pat. I myself have things going on in my brain that I didn't learn.
It's just the way my brain works. They're not evil things, but they are things
that some people might think are strange. As far back as I can remember, my
brain has always had these quirks.

I don't think anybody really understands the human mind. I think there are many
things about the way the chemistry reacts that we don't have a complete
      handle on yet.

For example. Why am I afraid of heights? Nobody ever taught me to be afraid
of heights. It's not like I've ever had any bad experiences that would make me
      be afraid of heights.

Why is it when I drive on a very high bridge with those big pillars (something I
don't do anymore) I break out in a cold sweat? I can't even watch videos of
people driving on the Verizzano Bridge in NY.

And yet, I can watch horror movies without blinking an eye and even laugh
      at them.

Nobody taught me any of this behavior. Nobody taught me to cry when I
hear beautiful music. The other day I watched the finale of Les Mis and I
couldn't stop for what seemed like an eternity. Talk about clearing out your
      sinuses.

What makes me so restless that I always have to be doing something? That
certainly wasn't taught. Some people could sit on a couch and watch the
tube for hours. I'd go stark raving mad.

Conversely, I have watched more violence and killing on TV since being a
child than you can possibly imagine, starting with that great show Combat
in the mid 60s and I didn't turn into a killer. Why not? It's not like my mother
ever sat down with me and said, "Now Stevie, don't kill people. They won't
      appreciate being dead."

Society wants to blame parents, the media and just about everything else
for the way people behave. I think that's all a lot of hog wash. I think people
are just people because of the way their brains are put together.

So yes. I'm pretty much saying that you're predisposed to doing whatever
it is you're going to do right out of the cradle. If you're fortunate enough to
have somebody stop you and get you help before you shoot up a campus,
you'll live to see old age.

TL;DR - Nobody REALLY understands the human mind.
