After using Firefox for near enough 7 years, today I decided to change to Opera. Firefox has been behaving badly and even after doing some recommended tweaks it still sucks by not loading web pages the first time, getting connection errors, and all sorts of frustrating stuff. I disabled plugins and extensions and it still wasn't that great. Ajax, jQuery, Javascript not loading probably, having to reload pages to get stuff in my WordPress dashboard to work properly. Firefox hasn't been that great, in my opinion,

Opera, on the other hand, behaves beautifully. I refuse to use Google Chrome, on principal. Google is getting to big for it's britches, so I'm boycotting most of their services. And Internet Explorer, well I've never been a fan, even though IE9 is the best version so far.

Opera has always been a fantastic browser, and this latest version is lightening fast. I hope it stays that way.

anyone else having issues with Firefox? Are there any other Opera users around?

You quit Firefox.. and then move to Opera?

When reading the title I thought you went for Chrome Google might be getting to big, but Chrome is getting bigger for a reason: it works, is powerful and super-fast.

If I where you I'd reconsider and move to Chrome

Why Firefox insist on releasing new versions before all the bugs have been ironed out is quite beyond me. Firefox 12 is hopeless to say the very least, I agree with you Karen 100%. Similar problems here.

You can use this website though to get older versions of Firefox (and quite a few other older versions of other programs too) Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com

And once you've got an older more stable version of Firefox back on your system, simply turn off automatic updates to stop it from updating itself.

      Problem solved. Easy.

      Warmest regards,

The same can also be said for Chromium-based browser, "Comodo Dragon"

In many ways this browser far surpasses that of "Google Chrome," especially when it comes to security!

Its lightening fast and uses Comodo's secure DNS-network, which ultimately leaves all the rest, including Firefox and IE way behind...

I agree with Mrs. Blundell about Firefox. I don't really know what they're up to over at Mozilla, but I think they're going downhill fast, especially considering the fact that even their latest version ( 14.0 ) is still riddled with tons of issues, namely the institution of plain text within their "add-on" interface feature, making it extremely difficult to find add-ons that at one time (in past versions) could easily be recognized because of their being associated with a color graphical depiction.

As for Internet Explorer, words can't even describe my disdain for such a waste of time as IE has proven to be over the years, and especially when it comes to web-security, it still pales in comparison to the Chromium-based browsers and even that of Firefox --- what a pity! Yet why should we at all be surprised with such products when they come from a ridiculous monopoly such as Microsoft?!

Microsoft has, and always will, just 'eeek' by on what little upgrades and tweeks they can for their products while at the same time continuing to bleed the customer dry! --- So sad really, when you consider the fact that most people flock to merchants that offer good prices and equally exceptional customer service and technical support. Microsoft still has a long way to go in that regard, but I think its fair to say that its very doubtful that they'll change that aspect of their business-model any time soon...Thanks a million (I mean, billion) Mr. Gates!

I think Comodo hasn't been given the appropriate accolades it deserves, when quite frankly, if more developers followed their approach to web-security, then the web (though likely not perfect) would certainly be far more secure than it actually is today!

Kudos to the open-source project, 'Comodo Dragon'

You don't have to use Chrome. You could use one of the Chromium based browsers -

But, Opera? That's like taking two steps back!

Hello! Firefox and Internet Explorer are both very crappy and low class. They're really unuseful to most PC owners. Opera seems okay but I really like Chrome. It's really a fast browser, very powerful and very effective. Best of luck mate!

BOY! Practically NOBODY talks about opera and THEN, when firefox gets some good press here, opera shot a cannon ball RIGHT THROUGH HER HULL!

Anyone have some earplugs? I expect the fat lady to sing any minute!

This is NOT meant to be a fat joke, or even any prediction, but a musing to work in a joke so rarely used today. In an Opera there is often a heavy woman that sings towards the end, so it is used to admonish someone that the end has not yet arrived. "It isn't over until the fat lady sings!".

Thanks, everyone, for your great feedback.

But my change to Opera didn't last long. I used Opera all last night and although it's fast and there's some things I really like about it: here's what made me go back to Firefox this morning:

Favicons are not working properly. Yes, I'm a geek so I did open up the config file and perform some tweaks. That did nothing. I still can't see favicons in the address bar, nor in my bookmarks.

Rendering of images on websites: horrible. I looked at my own website and it appeared that the images were all 256 colors or less and I know better. Again, it may be a config issue, but right out of the box? That is something I don't want to have to fiddle with.

So I think I will take Mark's suggestion and maybe go back to an older version of Firefox and turn off the updates.

For all you Chrome users: I have Chrome installed on my computer, only for testing purposes. When I was developing sites, I liked to look at my work in all browsers so I have 4 browsers installed: Firefox 12, IE9, Opera 11.64, and Chrome's latest.

But, in my personal opinion, Google can go take a flying leap - along with all the big corporations who think they can bully the little guy. That's why Chrome will never be an option for me no matter how good everyone thinks it is. Seriously.

ive had problems with firefox on several computers where it would take ages to open caused by plugins and such anyways after disabling the plugins firefox behaved normally. I like opera too but for mee firefox is better because of the wide variety of plugins available for it.

I also don't use Chrome just because I want to use alternatives to google whenever possible. I think it's time people started branching out and send a message to them that we're not happy with the attitude they are copping lately. I do have it downloaded in case I ever need to see how something looks in Chrome - but I don't use it.

I've also been having some severe loading problems, so I might just go back and get an older version of Firefox myself. I used to like it. Now it's tweaky, slow, and a power monger as well.

I agree with some of the posts that Chrome is the way to go. Firefox has been getting sloppy lately. The only problem I have with Opera is that it is not user friendly with multiple tabs.

Chrome is WAY faster and for me right now speed is a priority.

I never found anything exciting about firefox.
    A browser is a browser,I go for functionality,not glitch.
Like a lot of you here,I have several different ones installed, but that is to see how sites look in different ones. Thats all.

    Edited to add this:

The average user doesn't care about all the addons and extensions etc, etc. Usually its only the hard core geeks worry about stuff like that. And don't anyone get offended,I'm in that category with you all.

Chrome is better one option to getting super fast speed fro the purpose of loading heavy web page in few of minutes. On the other hand, I'm using Firefox for its vital Add-once, which are helpful to make my work more easier in taking less much time.

I hate Firefox more every day and with every version it gets worse.

I never used it because of the hassles with 'No Script' add on (for security) as it is a constant nag and a drag on everything I do.

Yet I went back and used it without No Script because of issues with Chrome which I used to love - it has horrible caching issues (on errors) that make it necessary for me to clear my cache several times a day which is a big drag because the whole reason I like it IS the cached username/passwords. (you can leave a site and go back without logging in again as long as you don't shut down the browser). - these are NOT saved username/passwords but ones I use only for one day.

It became worse when I got a new PC with Windows7 - it is so stupid that websites working perfectly will get 'Chrome can't find it' messages - all I have to do is try it again and it finds it - but who wants to do everything twice?

With FireFox what is just pissing me off royally is it is so stupid that for years it could remember my passwords for sites which have several applications on the root domain - with different username and password for the separate applications - for example our member database is one application and then there is another one for enrolling people (new members) - TWO SEPARATE ENTITIES - TWO SEPARATE LOGINS.

Now all of a sudden it can only remember one set of passwords for a domain.

I am so totally disgusted with them both and of course would never consider IE which is a dinosaur even on the first day of a new version.

I may try Comodo Dragon - thank you tjc5 -- I was just whining yesterday to somebody about WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE INVENT A DECENT BROWSER ALREADY?

I'm using Comodo Dragon and can't believe the speed. It's by far, the best browser I've ever used.

I was a Chrome fan, but like others, have seen a decline in its capabilities and performance.

Firefox has been steadily going downhill for several years, IMO. I usually have Firefox, Chrome, IE, and Opera open. There are features I like about all of them and things I don't like about all of them. I wish I could mash 'em together and take the best from each.
