A word of caution about hosting ...

Worth noting and remembering:

When you buy hosting, typically you use a credit card (not always, but most times.)

When your card is canceled, not by you, but your bank or credit card company ... because of a breach in their "security" .... ALWAYS remember to notify your WEB HOST of the situation!!!!!!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Second note to remember: Read the email you get from your hosts, even if they LOOK like every other email you have received from them the last 4 years!!!!!!!

If I would have taken the 2 seconds to at least SCAN the body - I would have noticed the word "DECLINED" in it and well, would have acted on it immediately ...

but NOOOOO....not me!! Nope, instead - now I am looking at a "This account has been suspended" page .... how stupid do I feel right now?!?!

This has not been a good week so far ... and it's only Tuesday! ;-)

      David -

You're right and that applies to other billing agreements, too. I've had it happen when my bank had to re-issue cards due to hacking. Problem is, you don't know about it in time to pay the bill by other means.

I was told the companies billing you insist on the card as a backup payment plan even though it's never been used for payment.

    Thanks Kay - exactly!!

And this has caused all kinds of other issues as well - issues that could have been avoided 1) by having better documentation myself as to all of the monthly subscriptions/bills I had attached to the card and well, 2) me reading my email!!!

Even having a simple spreadsheet would have saved many of these headaches.

    Ah, Good advice David.

This weekend I think I'm going to make a list of the things that I pay (recurring) with my credit card so if something ever happens- I can grab my list, make a couple phone calls, do a couple things, and have a peace of mind =)

Welcome to the club David. I have had it happen to me with my hosting and a few other things too. I love to put everything on auto payment so I don't have to bother with it. But then stuff like that happens and I am busy not bothering with it. Fortunatly HostGator has a grace period so I didn't lose anything or even go down for that matter. I didn't plan any of this, but as they say, it is better to be lucky than good.
