I love to fish! Always have.
So, any other fisher people, (have PC here),
feel free to post your stories, advice, etc here.

And, of course, no true fishing thread would be complete without
a "tall tale" or 2.
But, please let's not get carried away.

My opening sequence:

    OK. Here's one of my better fishing stories;

Me and 3 friends decided to charter a fishing trip on Lake Erie.
We waited a little too long to reserve the charter so, the earliest we could get was in mid June.
Normally, by that time of the year it's too hot for good Walleye fishing.
Well, we arrived the night before under normal weather conditions.
While we were sleeping however, a storm front moved in.
We arrived at the dock around 6:00 AM in a heavy drizzling rain and 50 degree temps!
The charter captain was about to cancel the trip when he saw another captain.
He asked if anybody was catching anything and was told some Walleye were being caught
on the Canadian side of the lake.
He looked at us and said, "How tough are you guys?".
My friend said, "We can handle it."
The captain said,"OK! F*ck it! If you got Dramamine, take. We're going to Canada!"
It was like a Nantucket Sleigh-ride! White-caps splashing over the bow, the bouncing around, up and down hitting the water with a heavy thud.
We finally got to our destination and the rain and wind stopped. But, it was still cloudy and cold.
Although the fishing was slow, we did boat some fish.
I pulled in a 5 1/2 lb. Walleye and one of the other guys pulled one in slightly smaller.
We did manage to fill our limit even though except for those two they were pretty small. Just inside the limit.
All-in-all it was trip I'll always remember.
(F*ck it! If you've got Dramamine take it! We're going to Canada")

Ok, here's one of my favorites

On Kentucky Lake with my father. He'd been Bass fishing the day before and was having some real good luck out in the middle fishing some drops.... so we set a course and headed out by about 5 AM.

We sat out there for a couple of hours with nothing more than a couple nibbles and a couple crappie caught and was just about the turn and go in when he looked at me and said, "Hey, lets go over and try by the 'Cells'" (Cells, being large circular steel places to tie up barges.)

So, we pulled up on the inside of them in about 12-14' of water with a beautiful view of the countryside, and started using some Carolina Rig setups with shad color or motor oil colored 7" worms. We would dip the tails in garlic scented glow liquid. We caught a couple 3-6 lb bass right off the bat.... super fun. Then, I happened to look down in my tackle box and saw the bright red spinner bait that my wife bought for me because she thought it was glittery and pretty.... hmmm.

So I thought, "What the hell..."

I tied it on, pitched it out right along side of the cell, started reeling just a bit when my Dad asked me to pitch him the garlic glow liquid. As I stopped reeling and the spinner bait started to fall, I leaned over to grab the liquid and that's when the magic happened.

12 lb largemouth bass latched on and took me for a ride.... and now he resides on my office wall

BTW - My Dad still claims that fish as his since if he hadn't asked for the garlic glow, My bait wouldn't have been falling and probably wouldn't have caught the fist....

      ===============

Ok, to some that story might not be so impressive... but for me, and probably a lot of other fishermen, the fact of being out with your father, in the country, on a flat calm lake with birds chirping and deer sipping the water as the sun creeps over the trees..... doesn't get much better than that.... until you throw a big bass in the mix as well.

      ....Heaven....

    Great stuff Ryan!
I've often heard it said that lures are designed for fisherman, not fish.

And you're right. Doesn't get much better than that.

Read a comic strip several years ago:
A guy's sitting on the bank of a stream fishing.
His buddy comes up and asks, "How's the fishing?"
    The guy says, "Fishing's good".
His buddy says, "Oh, caught a lot of fish then, huh."
The guy says, "Haven't had a bite all day."
His buddy says, "Why did you say the fishing was good if you haven't caught any fish?"
The guy says, "This is good fishing. If you actually catch something, that's great fishing!"
