I guess some may idolize the guy, I don't,but I think they made a helluva great movie out of his story. Great actors, and of course they took liberties with the facts, but a lot of it was a real glimpse into organized crime of that era.
AFI has it in the top 100 films of aall time.

    Dan,
One of my favorite films too.
"Not entirely sure I am bothered by this person dying. I know that sounds bad."
Doesn't sound bad to me. I found it interesting, not heartbreaking. He never reformed,he just tried to play up on his fame after the movie was a hit. The government wasted so much money on him for the Witness Protection Program but he kept blowing his cover, and the would relocate him again.

3M, what does Pesci hate? You lost me. The movie itself?

    Fluff,
Depends on what type of radio station you listened to back then. That is from the extended/album version of the song."underground stations" played that version, which was longer than the shortened "radio mix" version.

No, he loves the film - it made him a star - he still makes money off that...but he hates it when someone sees him, they do the "Funny? You think I'm funny?" speech!

My Sister has a friend who's father grew up with Pesci, and they are close friends, and when he comes to visit he keeps a fairly low profile...but invariably it's the catch phrase that he can't escape anytime someone sees him...it drives him crazy...
his Headstone will probably say: "You Think This Is Funny?"

This scene was actually an improvisation by Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta, there was no script only an outline from Pesci. In his younger days Joe had been in bars and had seen mobsters, and one of them really had this weird paranoiac reaction when someone called him funny. Pesci improvised with Liotta on this brilliantly.

Thanks for letting me know. If I hear it, I associate it with him,but I don't naturally put the two things together.
I think he and Dinaro play well together. They are both in Casino, another ganster type movie very loosely based on fact too and he is just as crazy in it.

But I normally think of Pesci as the chartacter in My cousin Vinnie or the Lethal Weapon movies.....don't know why.

    You mean "The two Yoots"?

Plus DeNiro and Pesci in "Raging Bull" - GREAT film!

btw: Since this all links to Scorsese...(sort of) if you haven't seen HUGO, watch it - different than anything Marty has ever done...good stuff

The scene in "Goodfellas" that always got me, is when they go over to Tommy's Mom's house (played by Scorsese's mom, btw) and they are eating pasta...he grabs a big knife - that you know he is going to kill the guy in the trunk with, but he just casually says, "Hey ma, I'm going to borrow this OK? I'll bring it back...don't worry"

a scary guy that Tommy DeVito...

That is a great scene, a tribute to the great actor that Joe Pesci is.
