Why Do People Try And Bring Down The Successful?

A person I look up to greatly is Eben Pagan. He couldn't do anything wrong in my eyes. However, when he announced his wedding to his partner, everyone started talking _something_ about him.

What is it about people that makes them try and bring down the successful?

For Pagan - it wasn't the wedding announcement - it was the ceremony itself (last year) that led to some negative comments.

Looks like the video is gone Kay. Shame as I was interested.

Man I think ppl bring the successful down because they 1. They think they should be successful and don't know the work that it really takes. 2. just jealousy. 3. The successful person deserves it.

I think #1 is the most common.

      Just an opinion though.

        Interesting perspective Karson.

Here's another: Because they themselves don't have what it takes to make their life a success, so they try and put down other people to make themselves feel better.

        Here it is again.

I also sat through the other video, where they rabbited on a bit, but l guess their fans and family members would like it!

Yeah, l can understand the rubbishing part, fair enough that they have it all, but in today's economic climate, where people are on the verge of losing their jobs, and are on the verge of losing their house, etc this sort of thing will p*** people off.

I mean that if l had the house on the beach, soul-mate, etc the last thing l would do is show it on YouTube where l would show people the house and cars, introduce my wife, hint as to how loaded l am, and how even if the worlds economy's went to hell, l would still be in the lap of luxury.

Far enough how he said, you can achieve this, etc. But without anything to back that up he is walking a very fine line between showing off and offering constructive advise.

        Shane

but yeah, l do agree with the infomercial gone bad, he really needs to go and live with some real people for a while, and take a break from his business!

Indeed both very good points. I think you could very well add both 4. Because they themselves don't have what it takes to make their life a success, so they try and put down other people to make themselves feel better.

and 5. Sometimes a person does it to feel better about themselves for a fleeting moment.

Looking back I have been a perpetrator of both those back in my younger days. Always felt bad after putting someone down though so feeling better for a fleeting moment didn't come into play much. As far as having what it takes to be successful I think I could do anything I want if I put enough work in haha. Really a few other factors their too. Surround yourself with the best to become the best being one.

Sometimes a person does it to feel better about themselves for a fleeting moment -- not realizing that you can't lift yourself up by tearing someone else down. Sometimes the motives are not destructive even though the results may be. For example, maybe they believe their exposing something the public should know.

Questions like this are difficult to answer because each situation is different.

Then, too, there is the fact that some successful people really ARE dickheads.

Actually - people dis a LOT of other people. Doesn't matter if they are rich, successful, dirt poor, just neighbors, or what. People dis other people mostly because other people aren't them and they behave and believe differently than the disser. The only reason you think they go after the successful is because you recognize the name being dissed. When they dis Joe Blow from Kokomo, you don't know Joe so you don't really pay attention.

Hi Karson, try typing "Google.au" into Google and clicking on that listing, you should be able to watch it, because it works in AU!

There is also another point, people that give up on their goals, tend to look at this world like a Vulcan! If they can't see it and measure it, then it is all down to dumb luck.

I have to admit that luck plays a part in success, but that is only because you work your guts out, and learn, so when someone or something shows up, you are in a position to take advantage of it.

And understandably people like this, that work hard every day, and accept that their dream, isn't realistic, so it is buried, can't stand someone who does the opposite, and makes it.

I suppose it comes down to the fact that they don't have the guts to blindly strive towards a goal, not knowing whether or not they will really make it.

Then unfortunately when the see someone make it, instead of learning from that, they probably just assume that dumb luck played a part. Not realizing that hard work, persistence and courage would have got them across the line!

Although unfortunately, some celebrates, Tom Hanks being one, say they are very lucky to be where they are, which unfortunately straightens the pessimists opinion, that wealth is only for the few!

This part brings to mind an Abraham Lincoln quote: "When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That's my religion."
