Take a look at the website and see what you think.

It's either one of the biggest hoaxes in history conjured up by a group of richly deluded young fantasists or a brave attempt to challenge the boundaries of space travel and beat Nasa and co at their own game - BBC
  • What will be Newt Gingrich's stake in this?

How can it be a hoax?

You can't just make up a names like the team of 'Lansdorp, Wielders, Versteeg and Flinkenflögel'

    I have read Mary Roach's books though...

    Interesting site.

"The settlement will support them while they live and work on Mars the rest of their lives."
Takes a special kind of person to commit to that!

I would say he is dead serious!

But whether he scratches up enough of the 6 billion, remains to be seen?

It is more likely he will do his best, and launch date for the 4 humans will be 2022 or later!

Either way it is pretty exciting!

And when they launch the probe to scout around for a suitable site, we will see everything the rover see's.

No, more governments hiding anything interesting from us crap. So, it will probably be exciting and scary. I won't be a bit surprised if NASA, gives several reasons why it is too dangerous, etc.

Mars One: Yes, Bas Lansdorp Really Does Want To Send People To Mars By 2023 - Business Insider

So, we may see the first Maccers, (orange arches) on Mars by 2030!

      Time will tell.

Our biggest challenge is acquiring funding. Once we do, it is on.

Loyal followers and enthusiasts can easily help us with this. The more people who show interest in this mission, the more companies will pay attention and agree to add to the finances.
Assuming the technology is solid and funding was really the only problem, then it will happen. Maybe not in 2023 exactly but it's possible. There are more than enough sci-fi/science geeks around, so simply raising the money shouldn't be a problem.

The real problem is since we have not learned to play nicely on this planet, this initiative will be lost in the court battles over ownership and profit allotments. Every country and large investor will want to stake claim to a piece of this "New Land". They'll want dibs on any natural resources and to send their own representatives to protect those interests.

In other words, human greed will kill it before one shuttle leaves our atmosphere.

We do have an Outer Space Treaty in place since 1967.

The treaty explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet, claiming that they are the common heritage of mankind.

Whether the treaty would be honored or not is another matter.

I don't think they have the technology to do this. REMEMBER also that the more they have to go out, the longer they plan to stay, and the farther they go, the more expensive and problematic it will be.

Something tells me Suzanne Flinkenflögel is going to recieve a lot of attention during this mission....

Or...she could have an argument with one of the guys who might claim they wouldn't do X with her if she was the last person on the planet, as the saying goes and actually have the claim hold some substance...

Passing legislation that all space probes that landed on Mars have a square 100 kms square tract of land around them as the country of origin as the claim, etc. I hope not!

Hopefully they will develop it like the moon, available to all people.

But if NASA is hiding things on Mars, it could get ugly, before launch. They may even resort to personally attacking the founder, but l suspect he, the founder of this, knows Mars may have some secrets, so he is being 100% transparent!

Heck, 6 billion is nothing these days...The GAO spent that much at the last team builder!
