I always wondered how VGer could amass so much information it could become self aware, but it couldn't dust itself off and find out it's name was really Voyager.

Cool, interesting thing is that the Pluto probe, now only about 3.5 years more or less from that planetary system, even though it is atomic powered like Voyager, will run out of power in about 5 to 10 years after passing Pluto, or about 13 years of power left.

And it apparently has about 40% of its fuel left, for changing trajectory for a couple of cyper belt objects which it could reach within a few years after Pluto encounter.

Obviously since Voyager is a lot more basic it used less power!

        OK. That does it!
Voyager can go 11 billion miles on a little more than 1/2 a tank!
Hell fire! It takes me a full tank to go from here to Cleveland!

VGER was rebuilt by a race of living machines. By the time Voyager reached them, "V GER was all that could be read.
    Apparently, a "wash-n-wax" wasn't included in the upgrades.

It’s hard to overstate the milestone:

At some point in the near future — it could be days or months, possibly, but not likely even a few years —

... Voyager is expected to break away from the bubble of particles emitted by the Sun encasing our solar system and enter the totally new, completely unexplored region of interstellar space,

...the black void separating us from the other star systems in our Milky Way Galaxy.

Just in case, the plucky little spacecraft carries a plaque and a golden record telling some of our terrestrial story.

It includes over 100 beautiful images and related sounds, like surf, wind, and thunder, the songs of birds and whales, musical selections from different cultures and eras, and greetings in 59 human languages.

Details on the contents of the Voyager...

This is truly one of mankind's greatest achievements. It's the kind of thing that should inspire awe in all of us and encourage the "next generation" to go even further and challenge what's possible.
