Have you heard of The SENS Foundation? Learn about radical life extension technology perhaps. Humans could perhaps live for 1,000 years or more... indefinitely.

    Not gonna happen.

I'm sure the elite will eventually enjoy this kind of technology....but us small folk, we are out of luck.

Aubrey de Grey who wrote Ending Aging does not think that just the elite would be able to enjoy this sort of technology.

I doubt it. We are over populated as it is. We can't just keep having babies and live forever.

But I wouldn't say no If I had the chance

I thought it was the sword, but the cloak and kilt probably also help. Lolol.

It's actually quite possible to extend your life. I have no idea for how long.

You can do it with lucid dreaming. It all depends how long the brain can remain alive.

Technically speaking, if anything was wrong with an organ you could replace it with a mechanical device. You wouldn't be able to function physically, but you could still be function inside your lucid dreams.

But it just depends how long the brain can live for, and also probably stuff like skin, etc.

Jesus, I've never heard anything that frightening. Matrix fashioned existence is an idea that I find more disturbing than about anything.

It will never happen, number one rule of life is we all die, death is the one blessing we are all entitled to, unless science can stop crime violence war and tradgedy then it would be extremely unethical to let us live on this frankly hellish world forever, would you want to live for eternity having to watch the terrible stuff on the news everyday, after a couple of hundred years it would really start to take its toll on us.

And to say overcrowding would not be a problem is misguided and ill thought out, its getting bad enough already as it is

Maybe checkout SENS Foundation | Advancing Rejuvenation Biotechnologies

Have the most informed opinion as possible, perhaps.

For some geneticists, aging is a genetic birth defect. I wouldn't be surprised if it can't be turned off some day.

Overpopulation is a problem. But it could, in theory, be overcome by allowing those that didn't reproduce to extend their lives. Or, by finding ways to inhabit other moons and planets.

What's the name of the cult that some think want to reduce the Earth's population to something like 250 million people?

I don't believe it, but did find the theory interesting. Some claim that these folks have learned to alter their DNA to end aging and want to reduce the population so they can live "forever" on a planet that isn't over-populated. It would make for a good novel.

Definitely. I think that humans will eventually have to inhabit other places in The Universe. It seems that there could potentially be an unlimited number of humans in The Universe if other planets could be colonized. Time shall tell! Elon Musk who I think founded SpaceX and runs Tesla Motors agrees that humans must eventually colonize outer-space in order to survive.

TREES? Are you kidding me? They don't have as much diversity, and aren't as constrained by anything, and not NEARLY as complex! If we were a 737, a tree would be like the CASING on ONE side of a wing flap! So DON'T go comparing a human to a tree. If you cut a tree in half, it will ************NEVER************ look the same again! It will NEVER have a single trunk going like it did. But it very well COULD sprout lots of new branches, grow, flower, live, etc... There is no way a stucture like the human body could adapt like that. A plant really only has one thing it needs to survive. Some wet part able to soak up water, and sprout. In some cases that may be part of a leaf. In other cases it may need roots. Sometimes, it only needs the trunk. Heck, they generally don't even really need leaves. Eventually, it may sprout buds that could be stems, roots, leaves, or flowers. Anyway, the circulation is from ANYWHERE at the bottom to ANYWHERE ELSE! Imagine if a human had his heart ripped out. All that tissue would have to regenerate AND, if it were possible, it would have to be within less than .5mm of the original area. Jelly fish also are quite different.

Apparently most people start to have problems in the early 30s. It seems that every decade after that seems to add the likelyhood of NEW problems. And I have still not heard of ANY person confirmed to have lived more than about 120 years. The only way I have heard to change DNA in one generation is through an engineered virus. And obviously there are problems with THAT. SO, happily, I don't think it is possble.

Humans require a LOT of things. Even those that are obvious are daunting enough to make the possible planets, that could be inhabited, limited. and how do we get there?

Lastly, if people HERE started living an average of 100+, things would be far worse than they are. Imagine if they lived 1000+ starting in 1776. IMAGINE that george washington had kids born only a few years ago. How many kids would that ONE person have? Imagine that most of THEM had kids, and THEIR kids, and THEIR kids, etc... That ONE person could have MILLIONS of descendants! NOW, imagine about all the others that lived during his time!

This planet is simply not run to support that sort of thing. Ever see "the game of life" The idea is that cells multiply and crowd each other out such that cells die due to lack of food, water, light, etc... GRANTED that is a "game"(to illustrate scientific fact using scientific parameters), and it is based on bacteria(Though they DO tend to double in quantity like every 30 minutes), but it still shows the problem. AGAIN, people need MORE space and resources!
