I am looking for a web host. Which would be best for me?

I have a small personal site that is only about 1GB in space and has low traffic. I will be adding to it, adding more pages, a text chat room, a blog, and a forum. What would be a good shared host to go with?

I would like to get a dedicated ip because I hear that it helps with seo, and I would also like it to include Softaculous because I hear that it is easier to use and I like the demos built in

Thanks

These days you don't really have to worry about specs as much. Most hosts have generous amounts of resources in each plan. Now you need to look at rep.

HostGator is an option. Though some say the support has gone down hill.
Ezpzhosting.co.uk offers US servers/hosting and has amazing support.
LivingDot.com is who I like to use for personal blogs.

Thanks for the quick answer. I have been looking at Host Gator and IxWebhosting. I like the cpanel in HostGator, but I like that Ix comes with dedicated Ip's.

What are your thoughts on the two? (I think IX uses the H-Sphere control panel)

To be honest, of the two you have listed there - go with HostGator, IX is junk, as are most other brands that EIG has.

A dedicated IP has absolutely nothing to do with SEO, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you. "SEO" hosting is a scam, and is marketed as if having a dedicated IP is going to make you rank better, same with C IP's. It's wasting IP addresses. Build your site, provide quality content and do things the correct way, you'll have no problem.

Most providers provide an installer such as Softaculous, so you should be ok there.

I agree, IX is nothing but trouble. I had a plan with them for a couple of years around 2007 through 2010. Downtime, slowness and as you mentioned H-Sphere which really stinks IMO.

Just go with the shared plan that HostGator offers, it is about 4 bucks a month and they offer great customer support and great service over all.
