How many signing this latest petition will give any thought to what those provisions might mean?

      Expression: Don't censor the internet.
Child porn, slander, threats? The problem is countries have laws and the internet isn't exempt. The internet touches the earth when domains are registered and hosting is used - and thus comes under the laws.

I say "touches the earth" because I heard an argument by someone who believed the internet is "out there in the air" and thus immune from laws "on the earth".
Access: Promote universal access to fast and affordable networks.
Don't know about elsewhere but in the U.S. this project is already underway. When universal access is provided - someone has to pay for it.

Openness: Keep the internet an open network where everyone is free to connect, communicate, write, read, watch, speak, listen, learn, create, and innovate.
It is open to communication - why ask for something that exists?

Innovation: Protect the freedom to innovate and create without permission. Don't block new technologies, and don't punish innovators for their users' actions.
Innovation and creativity don't require permission now - except when they infringe on the rights of others. New technologies are not often blocked except when they violate laws or the rights of other persons or services.

The last part is ridiculous to me. If you own a site and allows others to post on it, you should be held responsible if they are violating the laws by using your site. Otherwise, it could be a free for all that protects scammers and pirates by giving them an anonymous platform.

Privacy: Protect privacy and defend everyone's ability to control how their data and devices are used.
I agree with that one but it runs counter, in my opinion, to other demands above it. How do control your data if someone is posting it on other people's site - and no one can be held accountable?

How do you allow everyone "free expression" then limit them to using only data from others than others agree to? Doesn't one limit the other?

Basically, what that petition asks for sounds good until you think about it. Is it logical to want the internet to be a place where you can do anything with no consequences....and keep it cheap or free, too?
