Hey guys!

First and foremost, I am okay just melting, haha!

I'm at the library right now so I could let you all know I'm all right.

We had a major storm roll through about 4 am on Thursday morning, with 80 mile an hour straight line winds. It took down 3 of the pines and the big oak tree which fell onto the pool and broke it in two. I can't swim to keep cool, but atleast I'm able to go to the lake.

The house and cars are okay. We haven't had power since then. Have a generator but it is only powerful enough to keep the 2 freezers full of the cow we recently bought and both refrigerators running.

Save the beef, lol!

I hope to come back soon.

Miss you all!

Terra

Terra, we've never spoken - even here on the forum as I'm still quite new as a registered poster - but I wanted you to know that I've read a great deal of your very insightful posts around the board. I'm glad to hear you're all right!

Storms can get crazy, can't they? Your report reminds me of similar weather we had out here in California when I was a kid. Our old above-ground pool wasn't hit by a tree, but the storm was heavy duty enough to knock some of the paneling out, and the whole thing spilled out. Except that it wasn't quite as devastating, since this wasn't in the middle of an outrageous summer heatwave!

As an internet/electricity/air conditioning addict, I don't envy you one bit. Here's to hoping you stay cool and get your power back on soon.

Wow, Terra. We had a storm like that out in Pennsylvania-Philadelphia area last year. Trees falling on houses, flooding rains sometimes destroying basements. Some areas were without electricity for 3-4 days. My house was one of the lucky ones, only without electricity for around 8 hours. It's like
"Say bye-bye to whatever's in the fridge!"

And as the poster above me stated, your postings (which I have read alot of and I am also a newbie here) are very thoughtful and informative!

Hope everything clears up very soon!

Glad you're OK, Terra. They've been issuing thunderstorm warnings for here for days but we haven't had a drop of rain. Even the severe hail they predicted never materialized. We'd settle for any kind of moisture from the sky right now.The grass has turned yellow everywhere. We haven't had any rain for weeks. At least it has cooled off today, and it's cloudy, so maybe today...

    Hey Terra...

Glad you're OK. At least we know the answer to the old question, "Where's the beef?"

While these storms, record rain in some places and record heat aren't proof of climate change, they do fit the profile.

IMO, people need to start preparing for these types of weather "events", because they may become more common. Stock up on food and water and a generator or two. I also suggest some backup solar panels and/or wind power and learn how to make solar ovens/cookers, if your area can support them. Solar ovens are easy to make and can let you have a hot meal if the power goes out and you don't want to start a fire.

You never know and it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

I live in Upstate SC, after all the power outages on the east coast, I told my wife we should only buy enough stuff for the fridge/freezers for a week at a time, that way If the power fails, we won't have a lot of spoiled food to deal with. We usually buy groceries once a month, because we both hate grocery shopping (lol), will be making 4 trips per month for a while.

3M ~ Oh, you cut me to the bone! We have a slide and a diving board, just no pool now.

Sumit ~ Hahaha! Thanks for the laughs, that felt so good to have something to laugh about.

McDonalds up town this time, not for the food but for the wifi and air. Atleast they got power back, I'm still waiting. We've had 99 and 101 and 100 degrees the last few days but only supposed to be 86 today. Hurray!!

I'm not only waiting for power but being frightened now too. Boy, when it rains it storms here in Lake Orion! Pipe Bomb at The Senior Open less than a 1/2 mile from my house. Yikes!

Thanks so much for the well wishes everyone. Reading through them almost made me cry. Sorry, I guess I'm becoming an emotional wreck now.

I can't wait until I'm able to be here more often, you know, like I used too!

Okay, gotta get some emails out to some clients who are waiting for replies from me, worried about me. It's nice to be loved.

Hopefully next time I'm here, I'll be back for good.

Gee Terra...I wasn't trying to bum you out  - just take your mind off of it for a moment with a chuckle...

You will have to practice your kayaking skills in the lake for awhile...

I need a crying smiley, er, frowny?

Up until now, due to the large amount of outages and weather conditions, the electric company couldn't give us an estimate for return of service. And now, they're saying between 9:30 and 11:30 pm Wednesday, July 11th.

          What the heck?

I feel totally zapped now, I'm deflated.

I'm at McDonald's again and I'm in the process of trying to eat my frustration away with an ice cream sundae, extra fudge!

Ah, well! What are ya gonna do, right?

Gosh, I never realized how much I love this place and you all til I couldn't talk with you on a daily basis.

Anyway, just don't forget about me in my absence. :p

Glad you're okay. And it's good to hear from you. Who cares if it's Mickey D's, right? Wherever there is ac and wifi, you're good to go.

Who would want to hurt senior golfers? That's just crazy.

Take care and maybe you can splurge and have a strawberry sundae.

      Oh, I know, Steve.

I've seen them in action on the main road out of my subdivision. A massive oak tree came down snapping telephone poles and there were 5 downed lines from that tree alone.

They have to be dressed in their protective garb and carry those heavy tools on their belts too. It hit 101 degrees the day after the storms hit and they were working hard. I felt sorry for them.

Our neighbor lady came over complaining and asking us to keep calling DTE, our electric company, saying that is the only way to get them to get us hooked back up. I told her no way! I knew they were working hard and I certainly didn't want to add to their problems.

She got mad at me, but oh well. I learned a long time ago kindness and compassion gets you a whole lot more mileage than piss and vinegar, um, excuse my language.

Owie! I have a major brain freeze from eating my hot fudge sundae. I'm not used to air either now and I've got major goosebumps, haha!

I'm think I'm going to pack her up and go home now.

I'll be back as soon as I can. Miss y'all like crazy!

      Whoo Hoo!

I am back on the grid!

I never would have guessed that I ever would be so ecstatic to do laundry, haha!

Goes to show how much we take for granted in life.

It's amazing to hear the summer birds singing again and chirping until their heart's content when I venture outside. It's sooo much better than generators revving and chainsaws buzzing.

Anyway, ready or not, I'm ba-ack!

Haha! No Sumit, but they weren't happy with the racket and didn't sing, or they did and I just couldn't hear them.
