Ernie, maybe you're selling other people short. How do you know most people don't stop to smell the roses, so to speak? I take the dog for a walk by the river almost every day. I go to the river because I love nature. I bicycle almost every day too, down that same river trail for a few miles, then over to another trail through the woods for the return trip.

It true some people probably don't appreciate nature much, or meaningful conversations, but most? That's a pretty broad brush.

I guess because that is how they view life. We will all die in the end but the question is, are all of us are ready to die? It might be one of the worry of some people.

        Dude! This is depressing.

So you're saying that since we're all going to die so we should just float around grinning because any other emotion is futile?

I agree that life is short but who are we to say that just because someone doesn't frolic in the lily fields they're unhappy or small minded? Happiness comes in many forms.

All kinds of people are necessary to make this world the interesting place that we enjoy. Even the miserable ones. In fact the miserable ones are the ones most likely to create beautiful works of art and literature. Content people don't create- Why should they? They have everything they need.

I understand where you're coming from but I think in your desire for a Zen-like world you're forgetting that without our idiots how would we know that we were smart?

        Paul Myers said it perfectly:
"It helps to remember that it's just one small corner of a larger canvas.

Sort of like the toad or the stump in the landscape. The picture would lose something without it."

LOL..you do make some good points. I agree the world would be pretty boring if we all acted the same. I'm not wishing for 100% of people to act the way I feel they should, I just wish it was a much larger percentage than we currently have.

And what I mean is that you are choosing to see things the way you see them. You think you see and understand reality, but your reality is an interpretation of what happens outside of yourself that is filtered through many internal filters.

These filters include your experiences, emotions, biases, ideals, beliefs, and a host of other factors, inluding the mental and emotional programming that took place before you were old enough to reason.

There are about 7 billion people on this planet, and 7 billion internal representations of reality. The one thing that is certain -- your interpretation applies to you, but only you. You cannot know someone else's reality without experiencing their unique filter set.

        And yes, that is perplexing.

PS - Trying to force "our reality" on other people, or them trying force their reality on us, is one of the leading causes of strife in our individual relationships.

Who knows how we got here, why we are here or where we will be after death,
but it sure would make for a better world if more people realised they aren't going
to live forever and acted a little more real.

If we aren't going to live forever, why do we always stress and get angry over the
smallest of issues that don't really matter in the end?

Why aren't we more spiritual and have discussions about how beautiful the starry
sky is, or how amazing it is to be alive on Earth, and act like creatures, not some
brainwashed soulless Hollywood being...because that's what it feels like sometimes.

I have come across some smart people in my life, but the majority are just consumed
with Celebrities, dumb TV shows, degrading music and paying the bills. It's like
most people haven't matured from their teenager years (especially the more recent generations)

I don't know, I'm going a little crazy lately, reading a lot of self help stuff and maybe
      I'm feeling a natural high.

Maybe this post makes no sense to others...oh well, life's too short to worry if it
      does or doesn't
Hmmm, comes down to fear and desire, l think.

The fear that if l take a walk in the park, during my lunch break, and arrive at work 5 minutes late l could get fired, and am too old to easily find something else, and l may loose my wife, and my house, and utility bills going up don't help, etc.

Which culminates in the major fear of winding up living in abject poverty, too old to work, having major health issues, because of lack of money, (heating, etc) and alone!

So, most people tend to race around and not smell the roses, and only occasionally ponder the big stuff, then reality creeps in!

This is one of the reasons l got into IM, because eventhough a large percentage may think that l am taking a big risk, and will end up living the major fear, they don't see the process involved.

I have been at this for more than 4 years, without any big financial gains, (but that will change soon) and have found that the more you fail, the wiser and stronger you become or more determined. As well as learning more and more and picking up things that you can use later on, eventually it culminates in you finally getting it, and living the internet lifestyle or being able to smell the roses, etc whenever you want.

When most people come up against a seemingly impossible obstacle, they just quit. So they stop suffering, but suffer long term, they don't grow, because they didn't spot the hidden opportunity in the setback, (and there always is one) or become more determined or succeed!

But interestingly enough when you work towards your goals you notice patterns, and these patterns regardless of your beliefs show us that there is more to this world than meets the eye.

        Ernie,

You mustn't forget that the whole time we are alive, we are continually being molded and shaped with the final outcome to be a masterpiece.

Either way you want to view it, whether it be God in heaven or life itself, we are being sculpted with each passage of time whether it be a day, week or month, etc. When you consider an artist creating his marble sculpture, he doesn't use q-tips to mold and shape, but hammers and chisels of varying degrees of sizes.

When an artist creates sculptures from gold, to get the purest of material, the heat is turned up so that the dross will come to the surface in order to be scooped out leaving the purest and finest to be showcased in the finished product.

If we all were living in utopia with nothing to burn, cut, chisel or strengthen us, we would be a useless glob of mushy flesh lacking the muscle to do anything productive in our lives.

You could even look at us as pottery. We determine the time we stay in the kiln by how we deal with the heat. If we don't deal with it correctly, we crack. Yes, there are a lot of cracked pots running around too, but the sadness in that is that they have to be ground to bits for the process to begin again.

If we don't recognize the flaws, we can never grow beyond them and some people are quite vocal about it. That's what you hear in the whining and some people ignore it and that's why life is about Hollywood and sports.

But the wisest of them, contemplate where they've been, where they're going and reflect upon the beauty of each step while preparing for the next cycle.

At all times people are in different stages of the process and that's why there always seems to be the whiners, complainers, the oblivious and the content and happy. It's about focus and understanding.

If I find myself focusing on only the negative, I always play this song to bring my understanding back in check, for I want my life to be a beautiful work of art when all is said and done and my days here are through.

I LOVE the way this world was! I watched bears roaming around, kind of laughed when they got treed, I watch the sunsets, listen to the birds chirping. One thing I like about the home I got is all the wildlife around. I have heard frogs croking and birds chirping, seen deer and rabbits go by.

But I was on a road a few weeks ago. I went as fast as 90MPH(about 145km/hour). The posted speed was about 55MPH and I was going a little bit faster than traffic.

I had a TAILGATER!!!!!!!! I flashed my lights, etc... I was forced to SLOWLY slow down! SO, SHE had to also, but was STILL tailgating! I even looked for a point where I could, and SCREAMED down the road, to get away from her. SOON ENOUGH, she was tailgating again. As she was going off, she was honking and "flipping me the bird". It turns out SHE didn't even have that far to go. ***I*** still had over 200miles(about 322KM) to go.

I didn't know whether to laugh at the stupidity and ludicrous situation, or to be angry, at her risking everyone's lives, etc... I may have been going fast, but I wasn't tailgating, was away from traffic, etc... I guess I was both angry AND laughing.

BTW my car has pretty good performance and is a small car with a big engine, and 90mph really doesn't feel all that fast. I WOULD like to go slower, because I don't trust my car, etc... but this was due to traffic, and time. But isn't 90MPH fast ENOUGH?

      Don't be too upset, Steve!

Look at it this way, that lady was a crackpot, er, I mean is a cracked pot.

Take comfort in knowing that because her pot is cracked, she therefore has to be ground to bits so the Master Artiste can start all over again.

I think it's sad, but you can take pleasure in it if it will help you feel better.

Great door-to-door salesman Horace Bartholomew Schmidt -- the Man In The Plaid Suit himself -- says that humans find direction by focusing on the light of the stars, not where there isn't light. Add light if you must, he says. Be like a weed, he says, thriving on the tiniest sliver of opportunity:

Also, galoshes to protect shoes in the rain help when you're making the rounds selling security systems in the trailer park where it gets really muddy on rainy days.
