They are the pride of America — Team U.S.A. — and for the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in London, they’ll be proudly wearing red, white and blue, from beret to blazer.

The classic American style — shown in an image above — was crafted by designer Ralph Lauren. But just how American is it?

    So what else is new?

    Isn't EVERYTHING made in China?

"made in china' has 'american' written all over it.

      LOL Pat!

I'm quite sure I was "made" in America regardless of where the clothing I wear comes from. And I tout both proudly.

  • Want the London Olympics more American? How about this then...
Heading to the London Olympics this summer? Perhaps you'll get a craving for french fries amidst watching the various games. It'll be no problem getting the fries (chips rather, once you're in London), but you might not have much choice in vendors. McDonald's has the exclusive rights to sell french fries. The one exception to this is if the fries are sold as part of a fish and chips deal. In other words, if you want fries on your own, the only place you can go within the Olympic grounds is McDonald's.

Moreover, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) had to get permission from McDonald's to sell fish and chips.

I say!...not very 'sporting' of you old McDonald...

It's silly - Lauren makes most of his clothing in China and other countries in that region. It's not a secret.

$1400 for custom clothing is not high - and none of the complainers are pointing to a company in the U.S. that could manufacture the uniforms at anything near that price. I agree it would be better to make the clothing in the U.S. - but it might not be possible.

The fuss over McDonalds is politically correct posturing - they've been sponsoring the games as a food vendor since the 1970's and have several years left on the contract. Most Olympic visitors won't spend all their time on the grounds - and the athletes have their own food facilities.

I'm looking forward to watching the televised games - and I think all this folderol is taking attention away from the point of the games...the athletes.
