Say for example Person A makes a video with some graphics and a voice over for a 200 word script.

And later Person B makes a video with different graphics, with a different voice over artist, but the 200 words being the same.

Would there be an issue?

Does copyright laws today allow one to secure their wordings/script ?

If so, how come people get away with producing songs with a random artist using the same lyrics from another song?

Do share your thoughts on the same.

Cheers

    hardikvg,

Copyright laws cover EXPRESSION! You are able to copy the IDEA of a script/song, but NOT the expression. Words are expression!

To answer your question, they are NOT allowed to just sing a song! STARS have to LICENSE IT!!!!!! They actually have special copyright houses(I forget the name) to take money to pay the artists. I once did some work for a church! *******A CHURCH!!!!!!!****** And THEY had to pay such a company to pay the christian music author! Can you sing such a song without paying? OF COURSE! It is done all the time! Is it legal? Often NOT! If a star, or church, or product manufacturer, were caught using such a thing without permission, it could be an expensive and embarrassing proposition!

Even remakes of movies, even BAD ones, credit the source. You don't think they also PAY for it?

BTW you obviously didn't hear about what may be the most famous song rights transfer EVER!! The following covers a lot of it:

In 9 Years Paul McCartney Gets Beatles Songs Back Despite Michael Jackson? | Beatles Gifts, News & Merchandise

WHAT do you think it is talking about? If YOU were right, it would be meaningless, worthless, not newsworthy, etc.... NOPE! What it is is that Jackson paid to buy the rights to the songs so that HE could determine who creates them and gets paid for them. Now THAT is meaningful, worth something, and newsworthy!
