To our U.K. Warriors;

What does it look like as the games are about to begin; I see the security
has already cost over 500 million, and a few arrests of suspected terriorists
have already taken place?

How did china's tailors get the contract to make the uniforms?

To be honest with you most people in England could not care less about it being here.

That doesn't mean no one is interested in watching it on TV just we think it should be held in the same place every time. Makes things easier.

It has already cost £9bn ($16bn) although London is expected to be the first Olympics since 1976 to actually make the money back albeit in 4056AD

91% of all the Olympic souvenir stuff is being made abroad so it is a real boost to UK businesses eh?

I actually have no problem with this though as there are no places to make half the stuff in England anyway and I know not one single person who wishes to work in a factory.

So we complain but if no one wants to work in factory then not sure the complaints are that valid.

What else? Oh yeah the left wing Unions are calling on Border Guards at Heathrow to go on strike which should cause chaos for anyone flying into the country as you'll all be stuck at the Airport. And the London Transport Workers may join in too so no one from abroad will be able to get around London.

I'm sure it will all turn out okay though. Summer arrived properly today. Sunshine.

Hi Dan, l have heard that a lot of livestock will be present at the opening ceremony?

I know that Doctor Who is big in England, (my brother went to England recently) is there any mention that the Tardis, etc will show up, at the opening ceremony?

        Hello Shane

I have no idea. Not really been following what the opening ceremony will be like but I know it is supposed to go on for 3 1/2 hours.

        Livestock? You mean the athletes.

LOL, well there probably will be plenty of sheep there, hopefully easily dishinable from the athletes!

Always risky using animals, l am sure we will see some small stuff-ups, when they go to ground cameras. But overall it should be pretty impressive.

In AU, the tv guide said the OS would go for 4 hours, so l will tape the lot and fast forward the athletes walking around the stadium! Watch the rest, which is what l always do.

Not really an athlete, but l do enjoy some of the events.

UK are bad at security, we cant even deport a convicted terrorist. G4S have made an epic fail with this contract, they tried to employ thousands of imigrants and when the SIA said NO YOU CANNOT HAVE A LICENCE G4S **** themselves and it went nationl, (Not enough security personnel to cover the games)

All G4S had to do was to employ all the out of work Door Supervisors in the UK and they would have easily covered the games.

    Well thats my view anyway.

I'm not interested in the olympics at the moment. I will no doubt find myself drawn to watching some of it though as it goes on. I don't know why, I mean do I really care who can run the fastest over 100 meters? As for it being here in England I can't really say I think it's a good thing because I don't. They made the decision to hold it here and that's that. I think it's all corrupted anyway and it's all about how much money can be made.

The olympic torch was in my town this week. The road I live in was on the route it came through but I went out about an hour before it was scheduled to go past. I'm not interested in watching some nobody run past with a torch in their hand that they'll probably stick on ebay to make a few quid out of it, although plenty of people are. I just have this big negative feeling about the whole thing.

Can you imagine the boost to Greece if there were a permanent Olympic facility there - and it would be the logical place for it?

A second country could have a Winter Games facility.

I love the Olympics - always have. Hate to see the strike threats, etc that take advantage of this international show and I hope all goes well for the UK.

As for the uniforms - it's only a political talking point. It's nothing new and was not a big secret. Just a chance to strut for some in Congress. Don't buy into that hype.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Yeah, l do get a kick out of it, probably because l enjoy the creative side and seeing the history, etc within a stadium!

The closest l came to the Olypmics was when it was held in Sydney, AU, in 199, something? Anyway l was going up to the Gold Coast for a holiday, and saw some workers wearing the colourful gold and green shirts, and id badges at the airport.

I suppose that the Olympics, eventhough it may have a profit margin behind it, gives the population a lift for a short while!

And at the moment with all the groom and doom hanging around that can only be a good thing.

Let's hope that the terrorists don't try anything!

          G'day Shane

You should only need 3.5 hrs. It was going to be 4 hours but due to strike threats and no security it has been cut by half an hour.

I did read in the paper today that there will be some farm animals there and a big bell. Not sure why. Apparently the theme is Britain coming out of the Industrial Age??????

Okay, for the non British people on the WF let me just explain our Psyche to you all.

We all want it to be one big disaster. We are dying for it to all go wrong.

Because the whole point of British social life is to chat in a pub and say 'Well if you ask me I knew that was going to happen.'

If things are planned and do what is expected then there is a slight sense of loss.

However, there is then the paradox. When it is all finished, if it turns out good we will be saying 'well of course no one does these things as well as us.'

Arrrgh, so the winging pom isn't a myth!!!!

            Shane

But seriously l hope that it goes well, nothing worse than a major stuff up in front of a Billion or 2 people!

Although the last Olympics in China, did have a big stuff up with one of the giant pillars not going up as planned, but they got away with it. More or less.

I was in London on a 2yr working visa when the bombings happened. Scariest day ever. The bombings were a day after the results were announced of who would host the games. Luckily i got on the piss the night before and slept in so by the time i got to the train station the underground had been closed down.
