All In The Family would not have been the same without him. I used to love watching him and Archy banter. That clip is hilarious, TB. It's good to be able to laugh at that kind of thing instead of being persecuted for it. Sherman and Archie did a lot for lightening people up a little bit.

    RIP George.

LIGHTENING? George would have a field day! But seriously, Wikipedia indicates that Sherman had a pretty good life, and was a nice guy. Even George wasn't THAT bad. He had a LOUSY maid that made fun of him, but kept her on, and gave a white racist CPR. The white racist, after his son told him what happened, said "You should have let me die!". George seemed to be ok with the willis'. Yeah, it would have been nicer if his character were nicer, but it probably wouldn't have been as fun.

    RIP Sherman.

I am sure the maid, Florence, would have something sarcastic to say about this development.

    George and Weezy forever.

  • Curiously, Sherman Hemsley never married, and had no children.

    Other triva:
Such was Hemsley's and (Isabel) Sanford's compatibility and credibility as a married couple that no one seemed to notice or care that in real life Sanford was twenty years older than Hemsley.
In 1989, Hemsley, who had previously been a jazz keyboardist, released a single entitled "Ain't That a Kick in the Head"[3]. This was followed in 1992 with Dance, an album of rhythm and blues music[4]. In 1999, Hemsley collaborated with Yes lead singer Jon Anderson on an album titled Festival of Dreams which was not released.[5]

Hemsley was a self-proclaimed fan of 1970s progressive rock bands[6][7] including Yes,[6] Gentle Giant, Gong[7], and Nektar. During his appearance on Dinah!, Hemsley performed a dance to the Gentle Giant song "Proclamation" from The Power and the Glory. After his dance, Shore laughed and asked what kind of music that was. Sherman then gave a five-minute speech about Gentle Giant.
